1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Hi all I needed some where to secure my rifles when not in use, so I purchased a Buffalo River 3 Airgun safe off the internet. What a load of crap 3 guns more like 3 tins of pellets, I think they are taking the nick thinking that you are going to remove your scope every time you want to store your guns.

Warning to to all do not purchased one of these metal lockers.

Not a happy shooter, so I'm off to off some quarry

Most cabinets are made in two or more versions - one for shotguns, one for scoped rifles which are deeper. Some have an ammo safe too. It sounds as if you have the shotgun version.

Wasn't the shot gun one I bought, it was the 3 airgun safe, it's pants may have to look at something else and use it for something else like clothes

I had a similar experience with a second hand cabinet. The only way to be sure when buying is to view the thing in the metal. You must be gutted. KB1

I have a bratton sound gun cabinet. the deep one that fits 5 rifles with scopes. there is no way I can fit 5 in there without knocking the stocks or scopes together. so if your thinking about buying any gun cabinet buy one that takes more rifles than you have. that way they fit in comfortably and there may be room for when you buy your next one.:D. the cabinet itself is great and im well pleased with mine.

Sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction.

I recently ordered a 6 gun safe off the bay from GDK (do a bay search for GDK gun safe).

I won it in auction for almost £30 less than he sells them on 'buy it now', it was built once I'd paid for it (smart business model if you ask me, to build for confirmed and paid for orders) and a red faced courier dropped it off in my front porch four or five days after payment

I can easily fit 5 scoped rifles into it without them getting cramped and, if I was careful, I could probably get 6 in.

Total cost including delivery was £147

It's made to current standards and is accepted by all forces for FAC and shotgun use so if you have weapons of that kind or you are considering branching out in that direction the cabinet represents excellent value IMHO

I have two of them now, one for the air rifles and one for the big guns.

I have no connection with the seller other than as a satisfied consumer :D

Why worry. its not a legal requirement so i won't spend money on one. and when it does become a legal requirement it will mean licensing airguns. so a trigger lock at most is recommended but again not legally required as long as the guns are not accessible by under 18s alone. thats the only requirement. And that came from my FEO.

Security, accidental or malicious (child/disgruntled partner/ex) damage, everything in one dedicated place, etc, etc,.

There are lots of very good reasons why people might want to but, you're right in that, at the moment, you don't have to.

Sounds like a good opportunity to put the boot into Buffalo River - nasty overpriced tat IME, that doesn't warrant touching with a barge pole ;)

As for cabinets, I have an old Brattonsound and it's very good - the newer ones are even better. Personally I can't be arsed / have too many air rifles to store them all in a BS approved safe; however it's a commendable and sensible course of action, if practical for you :)

Another vote for GDK. Bought my 3 gun from them. Made the mistake of not buying the deeper version. My fault not theirs and it fits 2 scoped rifles angled. Excellent quality. Guaranteed police approval. Delivery included for £84 IIRC. Fitting kit included.

Incidentally I very much doubt they are made to order. I bought mine cheaper as I didn't mind waiting a few weeks. I would imagine that is because they are shipped from the Far East and he therefore knows they're sold before the container is even shipped. Excellent business model!

I looked at the buffalo ones. Can't see how they get away with it. At the time I looked they were charging more than I paid for essentially a fairly insecure, flat-packed gym locker.

Certainly looks good although at a foot square it might be a pinch for 6 scoped rifles. About £20 more and you can have one c.12" x 18" from them. I just measured my TX200HC in its bag* and that is 1.3m whereas the cabinet's overall height is 1.22m so might be tight on height also. Sorry about the mixed units of measurement!

    * Cabinets always appear illustrated with guns and no bags, being new to this sport would I be alone in thinking it's a lot more useful to just pop the bagged guns in a cabinet?
