1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

No its not. A 97 never achieves the degree of awfulness of the 99 but the 99 is just a little marvel when fixed. upload_2021-1-24_17-0-20.jpeg

I'm don't deny that the end result is worth the work, but should you really have to do the work to get the end result you seek? Surely the rifle of your choice should shoot feel and perform as you want it right out of the box.

Yeah, it should - but for the moment sometimes (& not always) it doesn't, so move on - there are only so many times you can repeat your point before it gets boring.

I know what you’re saying, but I didn’t have to do anything to this rifle if I didn’t want to.
I could just go ahead and plink to my hearts content with it just as it is straight out of the box. Overall it’s still a nice rifle, and shoots well enough from new and for many that’s all that is required.
But I bought this as a kind of project to work on, as I know as many have mentioned before, with a little fettling this rifle can be more reliable and perform far better than its price suggests.

I have mentioned such a point twice in one thread, hardly boring pal.
There are only so many times people can repeatledy tell you about stripping down polishing and re lubing a 99s. Maybe someone should contact Weihrauch and tell them we would like to buy rifles that perform as required right out of the box instead of having to be stripped and fettled in order for them to work properly.

I seem to recall the same comments from you on other similar threads.

I meant more along the lines of manufacturers cutting costs rather than the tenancy to chew themselves. Agreed that a sorted 99 is spot on.

Some nice grain in that stock of yours, what butt pad is on it? Looks shorter.

    Same old chestnut... :bored:

So, show me a rifle that is absolutely perfect straight from the box, that has a trigger as good as a Rekord unit, has a barrel as good as the choked HW offering, that isn't drowning in plastic, that's as easy to use - for the same price as a 99s. Don't like it, don't buy it - you're probably a pfffttt-gunner anyway. Have you ever owned a 99s? Both of mine have been faultless... :thumb:

IMO a sorted 99 is one of, if not the best break barrel out there for the UK market.

Worth while spending 30 mins on the full anti galling fix and she’s good to go.

I can think of many a budget car that spends most of its life in a garage - at the owners cost... also some expensive cars ;)

The trick is, these fixes do not cost a penny, and many find the joy in ownership to accept that something is not quite right and make it good all on their own. I’ve done several 99’s now, and I can’t think of another in terms of quality at price that is built specifically for sub 12, regardless of what we need to do. I have air rifles costing between £200 and £2000 - I’ve had them all apart to be honest and they all have their own niggles.

It all depends on our personal views, yours im afraid won’t make a jot of difference to any of the manufacturers- it’s a shame, but it’s true.

Other than my Hw45 pistol I have never fired another HW, but what has just shocked me is how cheap they are tbh.

Tend to agree about the stock. It doesn't look too bad on the 30s, but that chunk of timber missing from the butt is somewhat unsettling...

I think the previous stock looks perfect. The ones you have. Have you seen the checkering if you can call it that, on the new 97 it's awful

Cheers mate, mind the chances of me getting your way anytime soon are, shall we say, a bit limited. Lol.
I've concentrated on retro 70s 80,s stuff so far, bsa, mainly, but think it's maybe time to part with a bit of the nostalgia and try an HW. I do have an old Hw30 coming for me Grandson, free thanks to Whambam, so maybe it'll open my perspective a bit for when finances improve (out of lockdown)
