1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

I just purchased a Hatsan Striker and now want to buy my first scope as I've never used one before, but I want to buy a second-hand one hopefully for under £20.

So, what scopes are best and at this price?
Should only Nikko and Hawke be considered?

i need help as I know nothing about scopes!

You're gonna struggle with just a £20 budget but up it to about 35 - 40 quid and I'm sure the lads will point you in the right direction. Regards, Tom.

Do I really need to spend £40-60 to find a second-hand scope or medium range hunting and plinking?

Pretty much the case; you don't need to spend hundreds but a scope that does the job will cost a little more than £20. I'd say that £35 - 40 will find you a secondhand Nikko Stirling or similar scope that will be fine for what you need.

A cheap scope will rattle itself to pieces on a springer - keep going out of focus, off its settings, moving about, etc.

You want solid construction with quality optics. You don't get that with cheap scopes - they are cheap for a reason.

For £20 get a Japanese scope off eBay. Plenty about and nice scopes. I've seen many nice Japanese scopes go for under £20. A Bushnell 3-9x40 AO went for about £15 posted

Just looked at completed listings and can't find the AO Bushnell for £15. Must have been some time ago. I did find an AO Bushnell Sportsman though for under £40 - bargain!

It was about 2 months ago. And the platinum about 1 month and the elite 3200 about 2-6weeks span. Remember they are not always listed by the model.

I've seen a Nikko Mountmaster 3-9x40 with mounts for £30 on eBay, is this a decent scope?

Yes you do mate. If it were for fun and plinkin only, would say £20 may do it. But you want to hunt with it, and with hunting you need to despatch your quarry with the 1st shot every time. Even tho you're going to kill it, you need to respect it, and by doing so, an accurate humane shot is required. As such you will need to spend a minimum amount on the scope to get the minimum quality. Unless an absolute bargain appears, the minimum is around £40 or so. It also needs to be built well, to stand up tpi the recoil of a Springer. Why not post a wanted ad up on the agf ?
I would say a Hawke sport 3-9 would do the job easily.

There's a sales section on here that has scopes for decent prices; have a look in it and see what you can find.

The Nikko should be fine I have had many of them and they haven't ever been faulty "hawke has in my experiences" but its a lottery. Have a look on js rams bottom too as the jsr scopes are good value for money. IMO better glass than Nikko.

Nath92 has a Hawke that he's selling for £25 with mounts, which in my book is a very good price.

Look for a JSR 3-9x50 ao I got one secondhand on here for £25 and it was better than the hawke panorama it replaced inmo.
