1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

I'm looking to get a new rifle to go along side my HW97KT, for some reason it's in my head to stick with Weirauch, I love the quality and I accept they are not the prettiest of rifles to most but I love them, so I had in my head to get the HW98, but recently I've thought perhaps change is good so now I've started looking at the Prosport, which I admit is a lovely looking rifle (and probably the reason it's on my short list), I'd imagine they both shoot great and all I'll really be doing is target shooting so I'll be going for .177, is this down to personal preference, is one better for target shooting over the other, and does the trigger on other rifles equal the rekord trigger of the Weirauchs?

So with this in mind should I go with the Beauty (ProSport), or the Beast (HW98)?

    Appreciate your advice and opinions!

in a distant galaxy, far far away ....... actually
personally I'd go for the prosport - then you have a rifle from 2 of the best manufacturers going, and also 2 of the best springers available.

Lovely looking isn't important... It's how well you can shoot it and how it fits you. They're the important things.

Personally I don't like the flimsy cocking lever of the Prosport.

Hw98 is the most accurate break barrel I've ever shot.

    Your choice.

its funny you say that because the only ProSport I have ever seen and tried had an issue with the cocking lever where it would hang down 15mm or so when placed back into the stock position.
A break barrel would be different to my current under lever and it's £100 cheaper.

I've used both the hw98 and Pro Sport (also the hw97k) and I like the break barrel of the 98 and shot very well but the pro sport I felt is something else again. It's a thing of beauty and looks the part, the cocking lever on the one I used was perfect and worked as it should BUT down range there's nothing between them on a target sheet so take your pick because both are great but in different ways

Just to add to the mix Dave,

If its only for targets, get yourself a mk1 or 2 Hw77 rifle, fit a Hw97 stock and Vmach kit or Vglide,

they are like shooting a Lazer rifle.

I'd also recommend the tx200 over the prosport (I have both)

I've heard loads of good stuff about the TX and the HW77 but they are very similar to my HW97, so I may give the HW98 a look at in the flesh and go for that, my only concern is I never really hear about the 98 or see many threads on it so wondering if it's not a very popular rifle

Well, if you didn't already have the HW97KT, I would recommend the TX200HC over the Prosport.

Frankly, the HW98 is a good bet, as your signature suggests that you don't have another break barrel.

I have a Prosport, and as others have said, it's a thing of beauty - The stock is sublime.

I am not a fan of the Prosport cocking lever, however, not that I've had too many issues with mine.

I have a 95, 97K and Prosport - The 95 and 97 are the guns that get picked up the most often, although the Prosport is also capable of putting a smile on my face.

So, if this were my money, I'd take the 98.

Thanks for that Spring3r! I think my money will be going on a 98, I can get it scoped with some accessories for the price of the prosport so that sounds good to me!

It baffles me why AA put such a horrid lever on such a beautiful rifle
Not only is it flimsy looking but looks and feels like a section of greenhouse frame and not comfortable to cock unless wearing a glove
It is the rifles only downfall other than the lever its a superb bit of kit
Always reach for my tx's when i fancy a bit of springer shooting:)

Hi Dave Ive got a SFS 97 Cheifton and a SFS 98 but in .22 not shot a prosport but I think it would shoot nicer out of the box than the 98 as the 98's seem to be twangy out of the box . If tuned It makes a hell of a difference , the prosport is a lovely rifle but as you already have a UL rifle I would go for the 98 BB rifle and get it tuned properly ATB Mike :)
