1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

For what its worth, I've never had an issue with BAR. Always treated with respect and very helpful, even when I was just having a mooch.

I used to spoil my old woman rotten. Every time we went out it was via a gun shop, but I did buy her lunch. I got an ultimatum she said to me "it's either me or guns, make your mind up? I really enjoyed my new Franchi shot gun.

And I repeat, it was Rob's prerogative ... so end of need for comments regarding the original thread.

They bought me a full Monty breakfast baguette when I went in to buy my Rapid. Lloyd came back with the food and this little aside "a fella just came into the cafe and said 'can you tell me where your chicken is sourced?' The guy behind the counter said "yes mate.... Asda!"
Well, I found it funny anyway.

Hope all continues to go well for Lloyd and BAR....I'm very fond of that shop and have bought a few classics there over the years. The next thing I get from there will be my first PCP as I hurtle into the ' modern era' :p

My reply on the original thread got partly moderated I think for unnecessary and inappropriate comments, I presumed it was because I used the word bitching and that wasn’t allowed but now a moderator has used bitching, could anyone tell me if bitching is not allowed, or bitching is only allowed if a moderator uses it. Thanks.

Hello everyone. Thought I'd pop in to say hello and tell you quickly whats happening at BAR. Things have changed a bit so here goes:

A few months ago we decided to cut our hours for the sake of the staff, we are all getting older and a couple of them really were thinking of retiring and I really didn't want to lose them .We also wanted to spend more time with personal customers and felt that mail order was a sacrifice we were prepared to make as the shop can be extremely busy and I could see the staff were quite stressed about getting everything done. Rushing around causes mistakes to be made and it became way too much for everyone .

One of the three remaining staff , Andy then had to hand his notice in due to a family health issue which left two of us so we stuggled to answer the phone . If you have been in the shop the last couple of months you will know that the phone rings almost constantly and we couldn't answer whilst serving. We certainly don't ever let it ring unless we are busy . We advertised for staff and took on a new guy ,Charles , who is great but doesn't know the airgun industry so he didn't answer the phone for a while until he got up to speed.

Fast forward two weeks , and our phone response rate has gone from 40-85% ,Charles is now mucking in and learning fast and the shop is once again becoming efficient and relaxed.

I want to say thank you to all our customers past and present .We know its been difficult to contact us recently but we are still here, still working hard but enjoying it again , and if you have visited us in the last couple of weeks it hopefully shows .

I saw a few comments on the deleted thread...I think I remember one customer caught us having a break and cigarette one day , he probably didn't see the sweat rolling down my face after operating the compressor for 2 hours solid and the guy who offfered me the cigarette had just spent £2000 and I thought it a good opportunity to tell him about our local club .

Moving forward, we are still looking for another member of staff then we can resume limited mail order of all the items we import or you find difficult getting from elsewhere.

    Thanks chaps .

Thanks for the update Lloyd - sounds like a good plan and really happy to hear you're busy.....that has to be a good thing :D Its very frustrating when the phone constantly rings, I guess having an answer phone would just result in many messages to deal with. A tough situation for you and your potential customers.

Is it right you will only be doing mail order on the things that you import rather than run of the mill things?
    thanks
    Tim B

Good on you Lloyd. It's good to see part of your decision making is about looking after you and your staff better whilst striving to continue to provide the customer service BAR are known for.

Me & the Mrs work in our own business and and a couple of years ago restructured our hours to get more leisure time and relaxation.

It's not all about the profits. Sanity has to be in the equation as well!

I'm sure any teething problems will be ironed out swiftly and all the best going forward.
