1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    Hello AGF.
I've been looking at becoming a member of a shooting related association i.e. BASC or C3. To cover me for permissions and get some training.
Do any members have any views or preference and why?
Also BASC have a member introduction offer. If I put a current members number on my application as a sponsor then we both get entered into a draw. If I go for BASC would anyone like to pm me there number. Thanks

BASC are the only ones worth considering if you're going to be hunting in my opinion. :thumb:

If you're only going to be shooting at ranges or at home etc., then providing you're happy with what they offer; any of the others will do I suppose.

IMO, BASC every time as they are the most recognised body ... not the cheapest, but have the biggest voice when it comes to shooting related issues in the UK. Also, many farmers know who they are and won't grant permission to shoot without it

Just a thought, but as a group would we not be able to get the syndicate rates from BASC?

BASC and the NRA have both been very good to me in the past with advice and help on many things from aspects of the law to range design.

Both cover you for all legal shooting activities in the UK, I'm a trade member of one and an individual member of the other.

Been a BASC member for a lot of years, never had to use them for anything drastic, but the same can be said of my house insurance.
BASC are pricey but have lots more clout if and when required.

I’m with BASC, the service is always good when you call them but I find their lobbying of government a bit weak.

Lots of people are moving over to the NGO now who are a bit more aggressive with policy.

I actually don’t like BASC much as an organisation.

Had a look at the NGO and they don't seem to have much information regarding air gun shooting and the membership benefits are hard to find. Might try and contact them tomorrow

Practically all use the same insurance provider, BASC do have a good and easily availible legal team.

You know I'm sure that's either untrue and just regenerated rumour or regional.
Never been asked to provide BASC insurance and weve always stated we are insured but never been asked who with or for any more details.
Thats across a multitude of perms from a small farm to huge farms and large liveries with many horses on.
For piece of mind and best practice it's best to have insurance but this line about BASC being better than others and widely recognised as you must have or wont get the perm ..... I'm not convinced mate?
BASC obviously have the loudest voice but there are other options that are used by many on here and they have no issues and perms to shoot on.

Agreed, but all of my current perm owners amounting to about 950 acres all insisted on being covered by BASC before they would even consider me shooting on their land, and asked for references ! I have discussed using other companies with them subsequently as the premiums are far less, but they still will only accept BASC, which is fine by me.

I've been with the NGO yonks and have found them to be as good as BASC.
which to be fair isn't saying a deal as this is not the states and non of them are the NRA.

Thanks for all your advice. Have joined BASC at the airgun rate of £55 as it seemed the best overall package, hanging fire with a junior membership for my son until I see how seriously he's going to take it. I'm sure that none of the associations are perfect and hopefully I've found the right fit for me.

Excellent choice mate. BASC do some very good Young Shots Days which might be of interest to your son, they feature air rifle and shotgun shooting and sometimes bush craft, game cookery or gun dogs. The air rifle shooting comes via some very talented air gun coaches.:rolleyes::thumb::thumb::):):)
