1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

So at work today we are talking about the Olympics and the conversation turned from separate competitions for male and female athletes to separate shooting competitions for men and women.

We could understand a man being inherently faster at running than a woman but couldn't see why it would be thought a man would naturally shoot straighter than a woman.

Does any one know why this is?

My niece is only 17 and is naturally a better shot than I am, she'd never fired an air rifle before last summer and within a few shots was hitting a 30mm spinner at 30 yards consistently with a Hatsan Mod 60 springer.

    I was well impressed!

Right, so why shouldn't shooting competitions be unisex?

Why not! my niece is a hammer thrower for an athletics club - training hard to qualify for the next commonwealth games, she doesn't just beat the lads in her age group but wipes the floor with them!

More than a match, I think there should be more equality.

Bell target is, and in the two leagues I shoot in, in one the top shooter this year is a woman (form our team), and in the other two of the top three shooters are women, one of whom is the top in the first league I mentioned.

Because women are more or less better at everything than men except displays of physical strength and abject stupidity . Females allow men to exist in our simple little world , like air gun forums .Trust Grumps as soon as synthetic designer sperm is available on ebay we are obsolete ! Trust Grumpy on this . Grumpy was once young and handsome  many many moons ago women fell in lines at grumpys feet with a charming line or a flash off big brown eyes :D had my fun :up: was described as a handsome charming bar steward . Grumps has no time for females these days , So in short the long way round . Naughty boy, Grumps! . Yes Grumps is orrable and politicly incorrect . but hey

In my experience, even thought there are different rules for Ladies and Gentlemen in ISSF competitions, there's really no need for them. At my club, some of the best shots are elderly Ladies.

Splitting men and women in to separate shooting groups must be down to tradition since everything else is that way in the Olympics and other such events. Certainly that blond teenage girl did well for us by all accounts.

If you really looked into it, I bet it has roots in archery - where women were discouraged from such behaviour.

I can't believe Grumps was ever handsome, a bar steward, now that I can believe! :D You got snow up your way?

Women can't judge distances. Look at parking.
Their eyesight is crap. Can't see what's in front of them.
Blinded by new shoes and catalogue special offers.
    Aren't they lovely though! :D

Although my good lady doesn't, but women are very good anglers but particularly with the fly rod.
But I will say this I've seen many women rifle shooters when I used to shoot on the ranges, I did notice they could concentrate far better than a lot of the men. Giving them the ability to gain better groups.

I imagine slaughtering large amounts of women makes repopulation slow after war.

my girlfriends mum used to be a cracking shot so im told... Shotgun and center fire.

I was at mileks house shooting some targets in the garden from the kitchen. His daughter asked for a go and she used my rifle. 3 shots later she went ... hit them. We checked the target and she got the bull every time. Not bad for a girl who had only ever shot a few pellets before and never shot my rifle in her life

I'm sure most women would be equally as good as men. I am reminded of a radio conversation I heard a while ago about women and parking cars. One of the participants was Quentin Wilson formerly of Top gear and Fifth gear etc.
He maintained that it was all rubbish that women were bad at parking, and that his wife could park their Range Rover in very tight spaces just as well if not better than he could. He postulated that the typical gender enforcements of childhood were to blame for a lack of confidence on the whole in women. He cited that little girls played with dolls and toy cookery sets, and little boys were given toy cars and skateboards etc. (he's probably right on the whole?). And as such, boys were reverse parking their matchbox toys at a very young age, understood a little of oversteer and understeer through whizzing them across the floor...... etc. etc.

I think he had a point? And it makes me wonder whether many guys on here have daughters who they have introduced to shooting, who might well be very good shots? Any way you look at it, this is a very male dominated pastime/hobby/sport?
