1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Well it's gone in the post tonight. It's taken a bit of time getting the evidence together and making sure 7 land owners are on side and prepped for a possible call. I've applied for a single .22LR with mod and am hoping for an open licence rather than being conditioned to one permission, we shall see. I've resubmitted the SGC to make them coterminous and the FEO knows me reasonably well through the SGC and also having authorisation under Sec. 5 a few years ago.

So fingers crossed, I started out wanting a Ruger 10/22 but now am leaning very much towards an Anschutz 1416 or CZ457 Royal. Wish me luck!

Sounds bread & butter, doubt you'll have any problems, it's not like you're asking for anything out of the ordinary.

It might be worth considering if you may want an HMR or WMR in the future prior to your interview. It can be added then with no bother and save you money and waiting time in the future. Just a thought.

Thanks lads, I'm feeling quite confident and a bit like a kid counting the days to Christmas. Steve, at the moment I'll be happy with .22 so have only put that on the application but it is something I'll be able to discuss with the FEO, it's possible he might even suggest it himself. It would be a while before I got one anyway as I can only budget for a decent .22 at the moment.

I will of course let you know how it goes.

If you gave details of more then one permission then this is more likely to happen.
    Good luck.

I agree that you should request an HMR for long rabbits. Seven farms is a lot to look after and you may be glad of it on a time basis.

No I don't have 7 farms, that would be a bit excessive! I have 1 farm, one water sports lake and its surroundings and the grounds of an old stately home. The other 4 are separate adjoining permissions which make a rectangle of gardens, rough pasture and fields. That last one is a pain because to make the most of it I have to confirm 4 phone calls to make a day of it or 4 separate trips to keep them all happy. And if I don't keep them happy then they invent ever more ingenious ways to get one up on the rabbits. I'm also getting the opportunity to do some one off paid work mainly airgun but some will benefit from rimfire. My actual need is at the lake for geese control (under GL of course). I will talk to the FEO about HMR, I suppose I'm a little wary as I have shot one but was put off by the damage they can do to rabbits but on the other hand I am now moving into areas where it is just pure pest control.

    Absolutely add a 17HMR

I didn’t originally apply, my FEO suggested I did and we added it at the Interview.

Used both, now only really use HMR

Flat out to 100 yds and deadly accurate

Yeah Readie 100 yards is best mate, mine then shoots pretty flat out to 180, with round 1.5-3' at 200

You zero your HMR at 100 yards and it drops 1.5-3" at 200?

    https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/rimfire/17-hmr-17-gr-v-max#!/

Hornady quotes a zero at 100 will give 8.5" drop at 200 - mine is about 8". I'd have to zero 2-3" high at 100 to be close to a 3" drop at 200.

Also, without knowing Mr Readie's HMR shooting habbits its hard to pass judgement on what zero is best for his circumstances. He might walk about fields that are all 125 yards long for all we know ;p My HMR only ever gets used with NV and I rarely shoot anything past 125, never seen the need at night. Still have to go and pick the ******* up whether theyre 50 yards or 200 yards!
