1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Today was the day! Off work and some free time so finally got a chance to fit the .20 barrel that the incredibly generous @David Winkley sent me and the legend that is @Halinfax threaded for the alecto's mod adaptor.

    Step 1.
Punch out the pin at the front of the muzzle hinge and the one retaining the piston to the muzzle.
    PicsArt_09-10-03.03.48.jpg
    PicsArt_09-10-03.02.24.jpg
    PicsArt_09-10-03.01.53.jpg
There is a clip either side of the front pin, these fire off if you aren't careful!

    Step 2.
With the top of the gun separated, detach the barrel clip by removing the 2 cross head screws.
    PicsArt_09-10-01.02.39~2.jpg
And the the hex bolt at the front.
    PicsArt_09-10-01.01.57~3.jpg
You now need to slide the metal inner hinges up and out. These are not attached and will need to be removed before the barrel will slide out.

    Step 3.
The barrel will now pull out, it is stiff but should come out fairly easily with a bit of a wiggle.

I sent the barrel to Mr Halinfax along with the adaptor that I needed to fit.
He not only did a perfect job with the threading but he had to buy a tap and die as its an unusual size thread (M8 x 0.75mm). He polished and reblued the barrel and tested the adaptor fit. All of this was far above and beyond what I'd hoped.

Hal is a genius, and an extremely helpful and generous one at that! The rumours are all true.

    Step 4.
Put it all back together by following steps 1 - 3 backwards. Small side note, there is a notch near the threaded end of the barrel that needs to line up centrally with the retaining hex bolt. The bolt has a pointed end which holds everything in perfect alignment.
    PicsArt_09-10-12.11.36~2.jpg
    PicsArt_09-10-12.41.28~2.jpg

All that's left to say is that the adaptor and silencer fit perfectly!

I've seen alecto's in .20 with the extended barrel but never with the short barrel. Is this a world's first?

It makes a huge difference doesn't it? I may have to go back to the .177 though as the power has crept a bit close for comfort and as this is a later model, I don't think it can be adjusted (if anyone has info to the contrary, please PM me)

My Alecto came from the factory as a .20.
It has a standard barrel - no thread for a mod.

Thanks. I think only the .177 standard and the .20/.22 long barrel do.

    Thanks,
I often wondered why some came threaded and others not.

I honestly don't know why they all don't come like this. All I'd say is that if anyone finds this thread and they have a standard barrel, PM @Halinfax because he's a wizard!

Looks awsume and glad I found a home for my old barrel. I have been shooting .20 alecto for about 5 years and bought a threaded barrel silencer combo so was looking for a good home for the old one.
My Alecto is better then me, putting 10 out of 10 5mm shots through a 6.5mm hole at 12 yards and (dont tell the moderators) taken out dozens of rats.
Shoots consistently at 5.2 ft lb with 2 pumps and I have drilled holes in my livestock sheds (one for the gun, one for the eye) so have a rested position for the gun with Roland about 5-6 yards away, solar powered red background lighting and a laser.
    Never missed.

I'm going to attempt the double laser set up you suggested as it's a stroke of genius.
Thank you so much again for your generosity, this barrel is a game changer.

Will upload a new pic tomorrow, when I have taken one. Have resourced the lasers with superb results.
Might do chairgun pro trajectory as well if I have time.
Glad you happy with my scrap........

I have two compact lasers set up at different heights above the barrel. One is red and one is green. I have set them to the same spot at 10 yards and no other sights.
If you consider the path of the pellet and your line of sight, the pellet rises to your line of sight and then drops away again.
So, if your line of sight and pellet meet at 10 yards, the lower laser is following the pellet path to 10 yards and the upper laser is following the pellet from 10 yards onwards.
Also the two laser dots can be used as a range indicator with green over red < 10 yards, red on green at 10 yards and red over green > 10 yards.

This gives me pellet on spot from 5 to 16 yards and the .20 lead has dropped many rats at close range.
