1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Fine for Telford man who had shotguns in his car

    By Rory Smith | Telford | Crime | Published: Mar 12, 2019

A former firearms dealer in Telford who carried two unlicensed shotguns in the back of his car has been fined.

Carl Garbett, of Queens Road, Donnington, was found to be in possession of an over and under shotgun and a camouflaged Browning semi-automatic shotgun when his house was searched by the police on December 27, 2017.

The 55-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm in front of magistrates in Telford on Friday.

Prosecuting, Sara Beddows, said: "As a result of an unrelated incident, police officers became aware that the defendant was in possession of two weapons at his address.

"A search was conducted and two shotguns were found, a camouflaged Browning semi-automatic shotgun and an over and under shotgun.

"The defendant was interviewed and explained he used to be a firearms dealer for about 10 to 15 years, and that a man had turned up and asked him to repair a shotgun."

The court heard a second man also enquired about shotgun repairs, and that Garbett agreed to transport the weapons to a firearms dealer in Shifnal.

"The defendant also mentioned that he had travelled to Shifnal with the weapons but that the man no longer worked there for them to be repaired," she added.

"He had been in possession of the shotguns for about two weeks."

    Concerned
Clive Rees, defending, said: "These are very straight forward guns and there's absolutely no dispute about what has happened, although Mr Garbett is still very concerned about this.

"This is a serious matter but I do not think it is the type of incident to be referred to crown court.

"He admits that being a previous firearm dealer he should have known better.

"He had checked, and whether it be down to hearing problems he suffers, he was under the impression he was allowed to transport the guns to Shifnal.

"This will no doubt result in him losing his current personal gun licence and I do not feel there is anything about this that should result in anything greater than a financial punishment."

Chair, Russel Thomas, said: "We are going to deal with this in the way of a fine.

"There will be a forfeiture and destruction order on the shotguns as you didn't have permission to have them in your possession.

"But we see no intent to use the weapons as they were given to you to repair so presumably didn't work – the other point to mention is that there is no charge for unlawful possession of ammunition."

Garbett was fined £80, with costs of £185 and a victim surcharge of £30.

His case has also been referred to an external firearms body which will decide whether Garbett's personal gun licence is revoked.

I have no experience of this type of offence, but it does seem that he has been quite leniently dealt with and maybe rightly so instead of a knee-jerk reaction from the courts.

Well, from my dealings with him I am really surprised by this

Firstly that he admits to anything!

Secondly, he didn’t use stress due to the death of his mother-in-law as mitigating circumstances?

I feel sorry for the guys who no doubt lost loads of money having their guns destroyed, did those fella's ever get their airguns back? I think one was either a stealth or S16 that he'd had for years?

Can't say anyone couldn't have seen this coming tbh.

I bought a air cylinder from him for my Ultra, no problems with the transaction and a very good cylinder.
Maybe I am missing something here, or I am a bad judge of people but I thought he was OK.
So please enlighten me why do people not like him !.

Unquestionably he is a competent gunsmith and if you had good dealings with him I a pleased but there are many others who have not be so lucky. His communication skills are slightly less than zero.

I know this will sound like I am related to him but I am not. I actually phoned him to order my cylinder and I must have got him on a good day because he was very polite and helpful. I can only speak as I find.

    Aren't you allowed to borrow sec2 shotguns on your licence? That's if he he'd a sec2 not a sec1!
Why did the guns have to be destroyed? They're not his property, if it was a car he borrowed it wouldn't have been.

I found it strange but from what someone has told me.

The owner in one case definitely had had his SGC revoked and it would only be legal to hang onto them for 72 hours without transfer onto a certificate anyway.

Once the certificate is revoked it would become unlicensed and should be handed in straight away.
You can bet your bottom dollar that will now happen.
A magistrate can’t do that. The police will revoke his licence and a judge gets the final say.
