1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

To the tape measurement, now with lower bipod, lower sitting stool from the table and leather bag filled with salt only small but the weight is there to hold it better in a nun movement hold.

do want me to use my .177 steyr , only use the bsa as it,s my garden gun all my other guns i keep at the family farm.

Are you sure 15 isn't an x? I would think if you placed a spent pellet in that hole you'd se the black has been punched through.
    Sorry jmho

Use whatever you like and are comfortable with, it's just for fun :thumb: I've not heard of using salt before, I use kiln dried sand, but cat litter is also a popular choice.

    Hi Dag,

I've had a few in earlier rounds that had black on the 'wall' of the hole that were corrected from 'X' to 10, so now I'm looking for all the black to be punched out. If 15 was an X above, I think 18 and 24 could be also. I'm happy either way though - I just need to think how I can move up from 244 total though, I've had 5 rounds from 6 with that score.

If you look at post 607 you can see how Keith has checked his, he even used what appears to be an unfired pellet which may or may not be right. I guess if he does it then it is acceptable.

You said 'so now I'm looking for all the black to be punched out' , frankly I don't think many diabolo pellets will ever completely punch out the paper or even card, unless you are using a wadcutter on a backing that enables the material to be punched out there is always the chance that some black will be visible. Even a slight angle to the camera hold can either show the black or alternatively hide it.

If you are searching for those X's it 's worth checking with a pellet, you can always post the pics on here for approval.

The old "is it an x" question is a tough one, I'd double the number of Xs I got if I put a pellet in every one that was potentially an X, so I don't know the answer as @Wofty has said in the past he did not want to use a scorer probe as not everyone had access to them, and as he was just using pictures to do his best to judge them, so I'm not sure the best way to take this is? As an example, here are three pictures of the same target, I have scored it as a 10 as to my eye that is what it is, but if you put a pellet in it it's an X, and if you put a scorer (.177 actual) in it then it's a 10 again. Incidentally, in .22 this would be a X no matter what

An X in .177 has to be near enough smack on for an X. .22 is obviously more lenient.
I've noticed guys are putting in cards with less queries for me to make.
It's always easier to judge in the flesh. You can see the deformation and make a fair call.
If you are adamant it's an X then fair enough. If there's doubt then you probably know you wished it was an X!

Fair comment - I just try and judge how much white surrounds the hole, it has to be fairly even for an X to me, but I can't see it getting down to the number of Xs to decide the places, it's a long haul comp out of 2500 shots :D

It's the taking part that counts, I'm retired and still find I'm struggling to get my cards done due to weather and other pastimes. I know it's going to be impossible for those who could not get 20 yards in their garden over the past few months to do all the cards, but it's all good fun and it's against yourself more than others to a large extent. I put in pretty good scores this month but still bought a new gun/scope/rest/pellets to try and get better next month, not because I had a poor June, but because I'm keen to see how far I can go with this and I enjoy doing it as a hobby. If the comp was not on I'd still be doing this, but not getting the banter that goes with it ;)
