1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

Hi all was just wondering is there any method of identifying how old my hatsan escort semi auto is. Can it be done through the serial number?

    1. Rabbit

hello, the serial number seems feasable if you contact the importer? as for shot size what size choke is the barrel ? or does it have choke inserts, many many years ago i was part of a team on fox drives and most used 4/5s at full choke to 25mtrs a good killing pattern. same for squirrels, 6 shot for rabbits at half choke. it maybe a bit different now with modern cartridges.

It has a multi choke. Also just wondering if I was to get a fox what do you do with them because I am sure as hell not chewing on it. Is it a case of take a shovel with you and start digging?

hello, then put the full choke in and try 4s, we never needed to use a high magnum cartridge but you could ask the RFD his advice or a forum member might know the modern cartridge suitable. it was 40 plus years ago i did this form of fox control.

Yes hence the phrase "Im going to bury this one" literally.

But for squirrels and Rabbits any shell will take them at close range even a clay cartridge but really if you were shooting a lot of them a decent pigeon cartridge will do, I personally shoot clear pigeon 6s in 32 grm as its all I can get hold of most of the time but they kill crows to 60yrds (sometimes) so a rabbit of squirrel would give in to one of these much easier, up to 50 yards with something like 3/4 choke.

Foxes require some decent shot, although number 4-5s will take them close in, In fact I witnessed a few fox drives where people were using the totally wrong shell but the foxes they shot went down no problem just one barrel needed, but I don't shoot a lot of foxes but Andy R10 hunter on here does a lot more than me and I think he uses some specialist shells up to 3" and custom chokes, but takes them to 60-70 yrds.

But you must have space and a good background for using big 3" -3.5" shells, Ive got a 3.5" magnum but never even seen a 3.5" shell for sale locally, although Im going to get some, as Im sure they will polverise foxes and geese.

I use some hand loaded stuff for foxes mostly,
But for off the shelf stuff.

Always use a 3 1/2 inch shell if your gun takes them they pattern better than a very heavy 3 inch, the extra stoping power is significant

    Use "BB" or "0"shot size
Use the tightest choke you have. An after market specialist tight choke makes a difference.

With normal full choke and some good shells 55 + yards will not be a problem. (Pattern your gun)
We like these shells they are good value and hit hard they come in 3 1/2 inch 63 grammes and 3 inch 52 grammes. They can be ordered at all gun shops. £8 ish for ten.

There will be many other good shells out there but you must use big pellets if shooting any distance.
    Cheers Andy

that's b**llox!.. you obviously ain't never owned one!. They'll shoot any 3.5" magnum all day long.. never ceases to amaze me how many peep's (non-owners) knock the Hatsan's.. but it's very rarely the owners of them.. a great gun for around £400 with 3 year warranty and which you can chuck around the back of a Landy, dump it in the mud and grit, drop it a few times and generally abuse it at that price.. and it'll still work!
