1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

I contributed to @cemlyn’s ".20 Zero Range?" thread recently by using the Android version of my MERO app. Simple enough (but more work than it should have been) so I took the MERO modules apart and reassembled only the relevant bits to make the PBRCalc Android app.
As a side effect - and because some folk like to quote muzzle energy instead of velocity - it also does a grand job of the calculating one of the Muzzle Velocity/Projectile Mass/Kinetic Energy values given the other two. Tap the title of the value to calculate (to select it), enter values into the other two and Bob’s yer uncle.
PBRCalc iterates the Point Blank Range by juggling the Muzzle Velocity, Sight Height, Zero Range, Ballistic Coefficient, the applicable Drag Law and the Environmental factors. The app's set up such that, having entered the MV, SH, BC, etc., on entering a near (or far) Zero, the app calculates the Killzone Diameter and the PBR. Alternatively, entering a value for the Killzone Diameter calculates the corresponding PBR and the near/far Zeros.
I've also included the inevitable Environmental, Graphs and Table views because, well, it'd be rude not to.

PBRCalc can be downloaded from my web space (here) or my DropBox (here) for side-loading into Android devices running Android 4.1 and later.

Constructive criticism is as welcome as always. ;)

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I haven't done anything like that before (I'm a newbie Android hack) but I'll have a mooch around t'Internet for inspiration. A choice of exporting the table/graphs to file or to email would be useful I reckon.
I feel a whole new module coming on ... :)

Interesting on the PBR a concept I was a proponent of for many years back in the day, although in all fairness I am not sure I would trust it with an airgun, simply down to how much more affected by wind it is VS a centerfire.

I quite like the pbr concept but as there is no wind speed taken into the equation, is this not just a vertical gauge for PBR in this instance? or am I missing something?

I know for my shooting ability I haven't got good enough (hopefully will though) to worry about wind especially at the range I shoot at that seems to have different wind directions within a very short span ie 35 to 45 to 60 yards

That's certainly a point of view. Although we're referring to the killzone as a 'diameter' I guess it's really a simple vertical line. Under the influence of a significant crosswind vector the point of impact would shift laterally and one would deal with the lateral deflection in the usual manner. I don't see that the vertical wind-induced deflection (Aerodynamic Jump) being significant with airgun ammunition and at airgun zero ranges though.
Opinions may vary of course but my sums indicate that's the case ...

I've added the facility to email a .CSV version of the Ballistics/dynamics Table to yourself (or someone else for that matter :)). I've been trying to do the same for the graphs but, despite trying for a couple of hours, it's still defeating me. Must try harder ...
    Maybe that'll be in V1.0.3.

    PBRCalc_3.png

PBRCalc V1.0.2 is available from my web space (here) or my DropBox (here). If you installed V1.0.1 then you'll probably need to uninstall/delete that version before installing V1.0.2.

thanks for the update, shame I am such a dumba55, couldn't find the icon at first then realised I had to be in the table to see it , then once I jumped that minor hurdle realised I don't have an email client as I am running it on bluestacks, will have to work out how to load it on my phone

    thanks though

PS do like the instant conversion by clicking the green buttons, very nice!!
