1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    Haunting!

I have some hi resolution pictures of Auschwitz from a friend who went to pay homage a few years ago, if anyone would like too see them.

It's difficult to portray in pictures the sheer scale of the place. I think what made our visit all the more poignant was the weather. Yes it was a beautiful bright sunny day but, with temperatures hovering around the -7°C range, what those poor souls must have endured during really cold weather (yesterday was -14) is beyond our imagination.

no probs mate, it's harrowing and disgusting that it happened but also interesting history!

I don't think we should ever be so complacent to think that this could never happen again either, so we must remember and learn from it if we ever see history start to repeat itself!

Will post the pictures when I get back on my laptop!

All wars are vile! My father was a Japanese prisoner of war for four years and just lately we have found some footage on youtube of him being released by the Americans, shame he was not here to see it! Atb Paul.

My great uncle was a Japanese prisoner of war. My grandma says he never recovered. He returned a different man and suffered ill health.

me and mrs wvm was there at xmas we was actually caught out by no buses running back to kracow at 4 pm on xmas eve , so we marched a group of people back to the train station ,they didn't have a clue where anything like the train station was , the trains were running so after an hour we were all finally on route back ....... I have been to aushwitz many times .. I learn something new each time ,it is highly addictive ,unbelievable at both the same time ,I have literally thousands of pictures , guys guys ,if going to kracow DO NOT GO ON THE TOUR!!!!!!!! from the hotels ...... they charge you 80 pounds or so each !!!!!

Aushwitz is free admission and costs about 2 pound fair each way either by bus or train.. and you deffinately need a day in each of them ....to absorb it....

most tours do the two places in about hour and half each side total 3 hours and other 2 for travel ...... we laugh at people say they have seen it in 3 hours !!!! if people have walked the sites they will understand exactly what you see ...there is so much there ...both the bad and madness that humanity is capable of dishing out to each other ... I find military history addictive ...
im off to the D-day landings this year again...... also to the somme for the anniversary also the D-day anniversary .... that's my holidays booked ...rather than people sat on a hot sun kissed beach talking about dribble to their wife ...I will be having a intellectual conversation again with the D-day vets as I have done before ....

I have been also to belson ,also Theresienstadt which is very interesting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theresienstadt_concentration_camp the assassin who kicked of the first world war was kept here

ps steve did you know the house next to the concentration camp was actually the commandant ,he had his kids playing out in the back garden ...when jews were being burnt at the crematorium just 50 yards away??? shocking ......... ps people if your interested in stuff like this get the dvd from the bbc aushwitz ...I have viewed dvds but never like the one they done ...

also been Thailand to the bridge over river kwai ... where our lads got beaten to death by the japs... you know the one thing that stuck with me ??? was reading on the railway lines "MADE IN BARROW" what a kick in the teeth for the brits there ... beaten to death laying their own railway lines  bought prewar prob ...but .....

pps, do people know the brits were also held here near aushwitz ??????? in monowitz a sub camp just round the corner ....... I have the book very very interesting ...

I have been to the last remaining camp in France, http://www.struthof.fr/en/home/

It's much smaller, and much fewer of the buildings remain. It doesn't take long however for the horror of what took place to begin to make itself apparent to you.

It was many years ago that I visited, but something remains with me. On ocassion I come across something made by Siemens. When I do I am mentally transported back to Struthof, and am reminded of the cremation ovens with Siemens proudly embossed across the doors. I fully understand the faulty logic of associating the current company with the one that knowingly made these ovens, and used slave labour in their factories..... but I can't bring myself to buy the product.

I would like to visit Auschwitz one day.
