1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

Yesterday afternoon i felt absolutely knackered and i was contemplating on whether to go out for a few hours in the evening with the new set up. Its been 3 weeks today since i had shoulder surgery, which the scar is starting to look like crosshairs... View attachment 103199 im also starting to get a little movement back so in the end i thought why not, it will be nice to get out either way.

I rock up to the perm around 1800 and tip my hat to the owner just to say im around so their little dog doesnt follow me around barking, scaring away any of my potential kills before i even set foot in the field. My permission is around 5 1/2 acres which is to the rear of the garden, the garden itself is around 1 acre but half of it is very overgrown so its pretty hard to see anything there which means most of my shooting takes place in the two fields at the back of the house. So i set off on the route i always take because im guaranteed that there will always be a load of rabbits stood up eating the blackberries on the left hand edge, which to no surprise i see at least 5 or 6. 5 rabbits do a runner but one stays still like nothing has happened, he was around 40 yards away so i thought "game on" first kill and ive not even been here two minutes, oh how wrong i was. I rest the rifle on the gate post and i tried to get as comfortable as possible which was fairly hard because of the shoulder and squeezed off the trigger ... i missed, 3 bloomin times, i could not believe it.

The blue arrow is where i took the shot, the red is where the rabbit was. This is the one of two fields to the rear of the house and the more i shoot here the harder its getting. The rabbits are starting to get pretty clued up and run as soon as they're spooked. They used to just sit around.

So, i do a lap of the field and i can see quite a lot of activity but every single rabbit is very young, i rarely see fully grown rabbits on this permission.
I decided to lay up along on of the hedges and wait for half hour, hopefully one will come into range but nothing does, so i move onto the other field.

The other field on this shoot has 7 horses in it so i have to be very careful with where im shooting, obviously the safety of the horses is the a lot more important that getting a rabbit so i really take my time. As i walk between the trees to get to the next field, to my left is a tractor. I use this as a sort of cover because between the tractor and trees is a gap and i can see right the way up the hedge line and 9 times out of 10 there are rabbits sitting along here. Im right again and i can see a rabbit about 20 yards away. i creep out from behind the tractor and get into prone (im having trouble holding my rifle up because of the shoulder and prone was the most comfortable i could find) i take a clean head shot and im happy to finally get my first kill!

The rabbit was just behind the black shovel

It was around 1915 now so i didnt have long left until it was too dark to shoot, in the last minute decision to go shooting i left my lamp at home!
i move on into the top right hand corner of the field and set up on the bipod there. for the first time in a long while i saw 4 adult rabbits but they were a bit skittish? i knew it definitely wasnt me making them that way because i was well hidden and thats when i heard some rustling behind me... a young charlie fox was making his way towards me along the tree line and didn't notice me. I called him in to about 30 meters from me then jumped out to scare him off. He was ruining my evenings shooting!

This is the corner of the field i rarely go to because i havent seen much activity but that evening i saw a lot, a good few adult sized rabbits, 2 squirrels in the trees and just behind that tree line in the photo i could here ducks and pheasants! I even had 2 ducks fly overhead. Its those times i was i had a shotgun certificate again!

So instead of shooting i just decided to lay there with the rifle and just enjoy being out, my shoulder was starting to give me a bit of jip, luck was not on my side and one rabbit is better than none! I pretty much lay there until it got too dark to shoot and made my way home.

This is my first write up, its not the best and ive kind of been rushing it. The Mrs is on the way home from work and i have a lot of cleaning up to do before she gets in . I will take a lot more photos next time so you can get a better view of the place. Til next time!

    Atb,

    Pete.

exactly! Every other time i have been out ive always just loved being out, im not too bothered about the shooting most times. Thats why i just decided to lay there, theres no point in getting frustrated it just ruins the whole trip.

Nice to see a decent write up, with pictures that show the permission, and help to tell the story, instead of the usual trophy pictures that people post. Once again, nice one.
