1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Suggest you book/pay for one deer stalking outing and provide a need for the 243, also have foxes put on as well, you could be advised that a 223 for foxes would be better suited by your FLO as opposed to the larger calibre, I have 270, 7x57, 243, 223, and 17HMR, all have fox on them except 17HMR, some forces do not consider it appropriate. you should be able to get stalking for around 60-80 pounds a time, then suggest you will be doing more, my first rifle was a 243 Sako A1, killed all species of deer with it using 105 gn Speer round nose, you can also build a fox round around 60gns. If your refused one for foxing, an appeal is hassle, doing the above will cost a little money but provide a need for both deer and fox. deerwarden

Fill out the new form 202.
    http://basc.org.uk/firearms/certificate-forms-and-fees/
Or ask for one from your local firearms licensing office.
Send off the form and your payment.
Wait for your feo to get in touch with you.
Normally when getting a first cf the feo will visit you for a chat over your reasons etc and often try to convince you to go for a smaller caliber .22 hornet .223 etc.

Of course you need a .243 as you will possibly be shooting deer in the future and you don't want to purchase two cf rifles. Be careful about saying its a deer gun though as often they will say you need to sit your dsc1 before they will grant for daily rented stalking.
It's a fox gun on your permission with occasional deer stalking rented by the day.
    Cheers Andy

Just reading through that form, so send off my current certificate with it and form filled out, and if you are granted your new calibre they just update it and send it back? Correct?

    Thanks

Were it a more simple variation yes, but I think in this case the feo will want to come round for a chat so it makes sense to hang on to your fac until then.
If there is a backlog and it takes a long time arranging a meeting you will be stuck not being able to buy any ammo.
It could be worth a phone call to the office and see how they want you to proceed.
    Cheers Andy

Hi mate , I went straight for my 243 from a 17 hmr and I had it granted pretty quick .. I put down for fox destruction and deer stalking . I was advised to go for a 223 but with me said that I will want to try out some deer stalking some time in the future I had it granted . I was asked wher and when would I take up stalking , I just replied with that I'd like too keep my options open with where to stalk . I've not done any deer yet just foxing when ever I can really . Good caliber ! Bit pricey with the decent factory ammo , but if you reload that will be much cheaper and better ! If you want a caliber precisely for foxing go with the 223 ? Or 243 if you thinking on doing some stalking some time .

All forces are very different on how they grant a new calibre. Just because you might take up deer stalking, means nothing. You may have to prove a need first and produce a portfolio showing you are actively talking part in deer stalking. I know that in some cases the police has told an applicant he's to use an estate rifle first. Then you may have a condition put on the 243 that states you can only shoots foxes while out deer stalking. This will stop you lamping with such a calibre.
Psoriasis speak to the FEO they will put you right.

He is not applying for a deer rifle Andrew but a fox rifle to use on his permission.

But he may buy a day or two guided stalking a year.
Nearly every feo would grant .243 in those circumstances, as it would be senseless to grant .223 for foxing and a .243 for deer when one rifle would do, wouldn't they??????
The guidance says they should grant .243 for fox in windy areas or when the shooter may also wish to shoot deer.
Most new fac,s should now be AOLQ
    Cheers Andy
