1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Mate not judging, or preaching brother, was really genuinely interested, unleaded is all I've ever known. I thought lead was banned to be honest until I saw it today... But at a third of the price I might convert

This would not just impact airgun owners, it also impacts rimfire shooters and shotgun shooters. In all honesty banning lead would hurt shotgun shooters the most as there are will be hundreds of thousands if not millions of pounds worth of guns out that can t be used any more as are not steel proofed. Also causes issues with choke choice as not supposed to shoot over half choke with steel.

Reality is a lead ban is coming, no avoiding it and in reality no one's going to have sympathy for a minority group of people who are already portrayed badly by the media.

When it becomes inevitable I'd imagine barrel makers and pellet makers will get their act together and deliver accurate alternatives, just be glad you ain't sitting on a £30k Purdey that will become nothing more than a wall hanger.

Has Basc commented on this or is it just some random "social media" post?

Why are lead free pellets so crap? Why cant manufacturers produce something that performs like lead? Wont this affect the leading in of the rifling? So many questions and these bans and "loicence for a loicense" bs is p*****g me right off. Yes im going to stock up on lead anyway even if this is just a rumour because a ban is going to happen sooner or later.
Whats the chances "they" can make a pellet thats as good as lead yet is a quarter of the price because thats all that lead free crap is worth. Pffffft:mad:

What's the chances that a manufacturer has already experimented with the best barrels and materials for a lead free future?
We already know that lead free pellets work best in non choked barrels, well the Chinese are ahead of us there, they had unchoked barrels years ago and I'd bet they have already got something in the pipeline. In the meantime, a complete lead ban will take a long time and involve parliamentary debate, long sessions and ultimately a change in the law.
At the moment it's all speculation on farcebook and similar rubbish. I'll trust BASC before social media rumours and scaremongering.

Today, a sales clerk at the gun store said that they were having a hard time getting powder. I bought the last pound of H4895 that was on the shelf. Was told that it was uncertain when they could get more. It's made by ADI in Australia, so it might have something to do with trade sanctions and/or import tariffs. Could be that militaries have placed large orders. The previous store I tried was all out of H4895, and no indication when more would arrive. I have already seen some of the dreaded "NATO sensitivity" primers on the shelf, which is a euphemism for primers that deactivate after a certain length of time. I have a lifetime supply of large rifle primers, but go through a massive amount of small rifle primers and quite a few pistol primers. We have had severe primer shortages in the past. Rimfire ammo became almost unobtainium a few years back because the lead went to centerfire ammo that was selling like hotcakes and a larger profit item for manufacturers. It consumed all the primers as well, and shut down a lot of reloaders. I bought 5 tins of JSB .25 cal pellets the other day, and will be buying more in the near future.

A few years back, some stores had to impose a purchase limit of 2 pounds of powder and three sleeves of primers because of the gun/ammo ban scare after the Obama election. A lot of the common bullets were sold out as well.

Lead mining is very limited in the USA now because of EPA laws, and we have to depend mostly on imports and recycling of old batteries. Some states have banned lead bullets and lead shot. Expect more of the same in the future.

I’m actually thinking an official lead ban could be good news. A voluntary ban is no good to me. I need a proper full-on ban to push up demand and the prices of the shot that good, honest, hard-working independent lead makers, like myself, produce.

A photo of you, with all of those 'friends', together on Mars, holding today's newspaper, which we'll probabily see in around 14 months, assuming you have access to a suitable space worthy vehicle. Until then, sorry, nope, don't believe you

You can shoot game with steel shot and other non toxic choices. Some much better than lead like TSS hw13 hw15.
Some are running around sqauking like chickens.
Everyone can go to BASC and read the reports.

If you can afford to shoot game at £30 a bird you can afford non toxic shot and a suitable gun as you say.

The tungsten heavier than lead shot even preforms far better than lead shot as you say so why the panic.

Some older guns will need to be retired granted but compared to other challenges game shooting faces a bit of a non issue.

Most pigeon shooters have been on steel for a good while due to the better price on birds from the game dealer.
Let’s hope shot game prices go the same way once all game is shot with non toxic shot.

More of an issue in .22lr and airguns granted but a solution will be found. Should a ban come in.
