1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

❓what's Your Favorite Reticle — And Why?

What's Your Favorite Reticle  — and Why? :thumb:

Here's what my favorite looks like:

:thumb: (1) Holdoff reticle (with evenly spaced hash lines, not a BDC) — because I like to dial for elevation and hold for wind when I have the time, and hold off for both if it's a rushed shot

:thumb: (2) FFP reticle/scope — because I want my holdoff mils to be the same no matter what magnification I consider best for the shot

:thumb: (3) Thick black posts on the outsides of the reticle — so that I can still easily see the crosshairs even if the reticle has shrunk a lot because I selected a low magnification on my FFP scope

:thumb: (4) The same units of measure for reticle and turrets (either both MIL or both MOA) — so that I can memorize or carry with me just one dope chart — otherwise I'd need one for the reticle, and a different one for the turrets.

And so that when I see on my reticle that I am 1.3mil low and 0.7mil left on the target — I just dial exactly those numbers on the turrets and I'm dead on.

:thumb: (5) MIL rather than MOA — because in MIL I get to read and memorize less numbers, and don't need to convert 3.73moa to 3½ and 11.78 to 11¾.

And in MIL I don't need to calculate how many total clicks a dope is. In the MOA system 6¾ MOA equal 27 clicks. Compare the MIL system: 2.7 MIL equal 27 clicks. Plain and simple.

:thumb: (6) Numbers on the hash lines (a few) — so that I can quickly find 7.5 mil without having to count seven hash lines.

:thumb: (7) Illuminated reticle — as light isn't always good in factory buildings, and when the FFP is on low magnification the IR helps me see the hash lines better (no, I don't obsess over the half ounce of extra weight...! )

Thankfully, scope makers have been giving us a good amount of these type of reticles, so there is some choice.

As an example attached below the reticle on the Falcon S18i 3-18x50 FFP that checks all the boxes.

For me it's got to be a 1/2 Mil dot reticle fitted to a x4 zoom SFP scope with true Mil dot value at max mag.
This way I can use the reticle as a half Mil dot at max mag for long range precision shooting activities. Then I can use the reticle as a full Mil dot at half of the max mag and a 2 Mil dot reticle at the lowest mag all whilst having the perfect sized reticle for 'quick pick-up' and precise aiming.

    Half Mil dot reticle.
FFP sight for the same holdover at any magnification.
This one - Discovery FFP Scope - has a crisp reticule and gives clear info for windage and elevation. . It works for me, anyway.

AMX IR as it does everything I need it to ...

    Screenshot from 2020-06-28 17-06-07.png

... the way I like it done, it's not too cluttered, yet everything I need is there

I prefer lower mags for wider field of view and easier target acquisition.

    SFP
I use a low mag in my point blank range when I'm not interested in the graduations and always x9 beyond it when I am.

    MOA
Because I think in inches and yards making zeroing, compensating and range finding easier.

    Screw down turrets.
I do everything on the reticule.

    Uncluttered.
If I don't use it, I dont need it.

    Thin reticule
If it's too dark to see a fine reticule, it's too dark to shoot quarry (well that's the limit I set myself) though I admit an IR has its uses, I found myself never turning it on.

I like the Optisan MH10 reticle - less fussy than the AMX

    MH10.png

But it has caught me out a couple of times with the wrong holdover... so always use HMD for hunting, or a etched Duplex 30/30 (floating cross) for lightweight springer where I don't shoot long range with holdover.

Do like the 1/10th mil turrets though... can't understand why scope manufacturers mix MOA and mil.

I must be strange as I’m not fussed what reticule I like as long as there is a cross I’m happy

I really like this Vortex ECBR4, MOA/MOA in first focal plane, perfect match for my FAC and will be going down a similar route with my sub-12 .177
Never got on with mildot, saw no point in moa adjustments on a mil-reticle. Or 3.4 moa aim points on a gun that will shoot better than 1 moa.

I think of trajectory in inches/moa
