£100 seems to be a good starting point, but be happy to pay more for a better gun, not really fussed on stock condition, i am happy doing woodwork, but must be good metal with full working internals, a side or under break springer would be good too! BUMP

Hi how old is your son?? can i recomend a ratcatcher, they are a co2 gun but they are light medium size and for a kid, they look awsome. As there is no recoil they are very easy to shoot. I have one that i may be getting rid of, its got a teliscopic sight, gun bag and a lazer. I brought it forbarn shooting, but i never use it, if your interested, pm me and i will get some pics up for you, even through in a bipod so he thinks he's a sniper.

I can also chrono the gun and let you know what its shooting

Depends if you want full power or not? You can pick a HW25 up for £100 second hand and he will have plenty of fun using it and it's built to last. It depends on his age and what the use really. I'd personally avoid co2 until the summer it's too cold now to be getting good use out of one.

Now that depens on why you would avoid doesnt it?? If you are hunting, you get less power unless you keep the spare bulbs in your pocket. If target shooting, it does not matter. A springer would be good but they take time to learn to shoot, and for a kid this is a hit the target gun out of the box.

As you can see, you do get a small drop inn power, in a bulb the co2 is liquid not a gas, but the preassure does not warrent a cause for conceren, my mate does bunnys with a co2

I don't mean to sound dumb but I don't get the diagram I keep re reading it to no avail =s. Its just my opinion at the end of the day and an untuned rat catcher I wouldn't use to dispatch any live quarry in this temperature. Id be reluctant to use it in the summer only at close range when you consider out the box they are doing about 8ft/lb. If its for targets then fair enough you will have some fun even in the winter but it wouldn't be my cup of tea. If the lads 10 years old he would enjoy it regardless of the conditions if the lads 16 and accompanies his dad hunting then it wont cut it.

Just like to add that if you are hunting keeping a spare bulb in your pocket I don't understand what this will accomplish. I could keep it under my armpit all day but once its in the gun its going to cool down. How many shots will you get off at quarry after you put the bulb in? Maybe one if you take ten minutes getting to the next opportunity of a shot it will be as cold as the conditions outside surely?

Sorry to be nicking this thread, but it shows a very simple preasure temp chart, and its not the preasures used in air guns but it does show the relationship to preasure change due to temp with co2.
Now i would not go and bang bunnys with these but at 8ft they are capable, and there is alot you can do with them (but i dont mod anything, i like orignal), rats and pigeons are fine and these will do the job with no problem, and if a young lad is going hunting, then with any springer, takes skill to kill humane, not somthing that can be sorted in a week end.

Now i am not doing this to sell mine, but i think with this instant world now a young lad may get board of a springer, and it is all about style. These guns have a great following and have there own forum http://crosmanitis.freeforums.org/.

I can understand you dont like these guns, but that doesn't mean there no good (you have a smk, and look how much slating they get, but does that mean there no good???)
But if we do want to carry this on, thets do another post as its not that fair to nick this on.

I also own a Ratcatcher so I know what they shoot like, they are fun but it totally depends on the use for it out of the box for me anyway. I think its tough for anyone to give an opinion on a rifle for somebody that we don't know the age of the person and what they will be using it for. I think theirs valid arguments for and against so if its left at that he can chose himself. I wasn't trying to stop the guy from buying yours by the way.
