HFT have ago at Bisley 8th Jan!

    Hi all
I'm going to my first HFT shoot tomorrow to see what it's all about! It's something I've been meaning to do but never got round to it as I also shoot fullbore there as well. It not going to be a comp, it's just to get people to have ago which I'm really looking forward to!
Got my waterproofs packed, anything else needed except for the obvious?

Sorry but didn't see your post before. Hopefully you enjoyed your day, and I am sure that you learnt a lot. My advice for next one is good waterproof boots, Jacket, trousers, hat, and something to lay on as it can get very muddy and wet. Some form of pellet holder/dispenser as loading from a tin is a pain. A rifle sling will also help. A leather glove for your support hand is a great help for grip especially when its raining.
Also make sure you put plenty of pellets (30+) through your gun before the competition on the plinking range, as temperature changes can make a big difference to accuracy, then check your zero. When you get home clean all exposed parts (of your gun!!) with Ballistol or similar.

    Hi Mike
Thanks for the info, i think you've pretty much covered it all. Yeah I had a good time and learned a fare bit from Keith and Ian!!! I couldn't of wished for any better people to of shown me the ropes. So I got a score of 35 which wasn't bad with my springer but i've got to back to the range at some point to re-zero my scope as it was a tad out so i'll be ready for the next one.

    Cheers Mike

Glad you enjoyed it. Some of the best advice for HFT can be found on the following site. Also check Chairgun to find your optimum zero point to produce your flattest trajectory. Print of the reticle / aim points and cross reference this with actual aim points. Practice your range finding and you will soon improve your scores.
I have a HW97K .177 with medium scoop height scope and use 7.9 gr pellets. A zero of 25 yards gives me a flat trajectory from around 18 -30 yards. Then I just have to remember 35, 40 and 45 yards which is 1.25 mil dot and then I always check my 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 yards from my range card which I carry with me.
