Question What am I doing wrong?

Just bought my wife an SMK Syntarg with SMK 4x32 Scope. I made a target in order to set up the scope. It's a simple A4 sheet of paper with small dots in each quarter than a dot in the centre.

    like this

    *111*

    11*

    *111*

After setting up the scopes, I can consistently hit the centre target (within 5mm) almost every time at 10 yards but when I aim for the 4 other dots i'm always off target by 1 or 2 inches.

I'm a total noob, is this something I am doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

When your aiming for the other dots it's most likely your body position is moving to componsate. When shooting a spring powered airgun it's paramount you use the exact same technic/hold constantly repeated. If you search on here or on youtube the artillery hold you'll find it very helpful.

Also lots and lots of practise.

Thanks Alex. That makes perfect sense. Just watched a video on youtube and I didn't even think about taking the recoil into account. I'll give the artillery hold a go tomorrow.

It takes and awful lot of practise. I've only just got back into my air rifle shooting in the last 12 months after 14yrs out thinking I can just pick up from where I left off. How wrong could I be.... When practising only do half hour stints. Rest for 30 minutes and go again. Sounds stupid I know but your eyes will get tired and create parralax errors. Over time you can gradually increase the practising time.

I'm only at 10 minutes myself

    Happy shooting

We're not planning on doing it at competition level or anything serious, just a bit of fun at the range or in the garden. I appreciate all your advice though. Thanks!

The artillery hold has made a big improvement. Pretty much all my shots are on target, give or take.

I know that all too well LOL.
even though my mrs seems to understand me better since she started shooting with me, for example why I have more than one rifle, but she is so competitive and sometimes I regret putting a rifle in her hands.
we have a laugh all the same.
