HOWA 1500 .308 and SAKO 85 6.5x55 in the rape field today

been out for a sighting session late morning through lunch time today and after the rifles were zeroed in (1.5 inches high @ 100 yds) on the target plates i had blast at a couple of pumpkins that were in the garage ready for a pie but now they`re mush.
had a very productive day with the weather round here being virtually windless and after some early rain dry as a bone and was very happy with the loads and bullet head combinations

picture 1 shows 50 grain .22-250 balistic tip (for size comparison) against a 150 grain .308 soft point,170 grain .308 FMJ and 140 grain 6.5x55 balistic tip

picture 2 shows the rifles,.308 on top with a wildcat predator 8 mod and below that 6.5x55 with a A-TEC maxim mod

    picture 3 both guns again

picture 4 is the SAKO showing rifle details

pictures 5 & 6 show the entry and exit holes of the .308 soft point on a pumpkin @ 200 yds, first shot bang centre

picture 7 shows the 2 pumpkins, .308 on the right with one shot and 6.5x55 with 3 shots (all three shots hit but 2 were slightly high) on the left also at 200 yds.

    I think I need a 6.5x55
Please post tech queries to the forum and request my input rather than asking me the question via PM - this way everyone can contribute and benefit

they're nice to shoot and recoilless compared to the .308.
I never saw the .308 pumpkin get hit
both are running "hot" loads though

I've shot a swedish Mauser, very accurate for a Mil surp, on par with my schmidts, apparently one of those rounds that can stretch across a broad variety of uses.

however it has got a boyds stock and a timney trigger so it's not completely standard

I have a howa in . 243 it has a tuned trigger and a modified bolt handle. I'm looking for a better stock but it's a shooter
