I've got the 4.6x42 and I can't see that the centre pops out. Have tried but it seems integral on mine as well.

Which way does it go, if you see what I mean? Assuming the cap is closed, does it pop out toward the lens or away? Thanks. Will have another go.

With the cap closed push it towards the lens. It's the centre circle.

That's it... and if it's anything like mine it will be damn tight the first time it's popped out. I just kept pressing my thumb harder until it seemed a mystery whether the scope or the thumb would break first. After the first removal it became an easy operation!

Yep, popped mine too but needed some tools. Thanks Smallholder. Will try it tomorrow on the gun.

Update. Didn't like it! I think it's better with the cap in. Seems way over exposed with it out. Unless I've set it up wrong.

    Eh!
Daytime. (small cap in flip up closed)

Dusk and night at shortish range or lots of IR (small cap out flip up closed.)

Dusk and night if maximum amount of light gathering needed ( flip up open)

If you are doing all that maybe you are using far too much IR from your torch at close range.
