    Bsa mercury or mercury challenger???

Hi guys. I have an old bsa break barrel .22 rifle, but i'm not sure what model it is? It's either a mercury or a mercury challenger.

How do i tell which one it is please?

    Thanks in advance.

If its got the maxigrip scope rail its a challenger. The other mercury variants dont have the rail just dovetails. Post your serial number from the barrel and i will give you the model.

    Cheers bolor.
The rifle is in my workshop where i work so i'll pop it on tomorrow!

It has got a raised scope rail and chequering on the pistol grip.

Do you know much about them? It has a fault, everytime i try to cock it the lever seems to 'slip' past the block on the spring

The challenger is considered to be the nicest of the mercury range and certainly has a distinctive look. I have both the challenger and a mercury s, both in .22. At the moment is still prefer the mercury s, mainly due to grouping problems with the challenger at the moment. The challenger you have is worth more than other variants due to rarity and and it being the most sorted of the range. Its a keeper mate a proper british classic.

If the serial number is ZB it's a mk2 mercury, but if it has the raised scope rail it's a challenger action. If you send me a couple of pictures I will be able to tell you exactly.

Looks like a Challenger to me. BSA only made them for 18 months & then the Super Sport replaced the Mecury

I see also a Mercury Challenger mentioned on the internet, again a different model? I really like this rifle, I have a RS1 sight fitted and am amazed by it's simplicity with good accurateness. Last month I bought a BSA Standard No.2. Henk www.wdbsa.nl
