rook pie is good you have to use the babies though old ones are nasty. people used to climb into the rookeries when they'd hatched and tie the hatchlings into the nest, then mum and dad fatten them up for you and you could just pop along later and collect

My Grandad says he used to eat rook pie and reckoned it was very good..
Wood pigeon is one of my favourites, Rub a bit of chineese 5 spice into the breasts ,(not too much) leave for a few hours in fridge to marinate then pan fry like steak... i like it medium rare so as it's still pink in the middle.... mmmmmm![]()
will try it next time perhaps an let you know wether there good or not, might curry them so if its rank theyll be something to disguise the flavour lol. if its tender an nice ill try it again but i dunno, stew perhaps
I remember sing a programe on TV by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall where he shot some Rooks and ate them. I'm sure he made a Rook pie and also cooked them in another way that I cant recall. Dont think I'd eat a Magpie though, even in a curry.
