Have you considered that it is we who are the biggest pest on this planet...
And therefore that is the reason...
Sorry, really way off thread, my 'pologies.

My gun's are tool's not weapons
Like Ian I too have a healthy suspicion of those who enjoy killing for killings sake. We all know people who this applies to whether it's the 'bag filler' taking easy, low pheasants or the trigger-happy airgunner who shoots everything in sight.
I don't shoot because I enjoy killing. Enjoying killing does not equate to carrying a poisoned buzzard from the Nth. York's Moors to the vets thus prematurely ending my day's shooting after a 90 mile drive, and ultimately losing my shooting rights because of it. Neither does it equate to moving my hide to a less favourable position to allow a woodpecker to feed her chicks undisturbed or walking past a flotilla of mallard without taking one as I'm allowed to.
I shoot, fish and have snared and ferreted and I have always either returned my catch when fishing, or made good use out of it where possible. I shoot to control vermin - full stop! The reason I do it is because I enjoy the whole experience. There are days when I don't fire a shot but still go home happy. Why? Because for one thing I've had a day out in the countryside and secondly and perversely, the less I have to shoot, the better job I'm doing in controlling the vermin.
Shooting rats is a relentless chore. It is done to reduce their numbers without introducing poison into the food chain and thus affecting raptors.
As for fox hunting - that was banned for political not ethical reasons.
thank you for all your replys, i have been a member of alot of forums in the past and it has been very difficult tto get any relpies, this was my first post on the forum and within a day it is 3 pages long.
i love this forum!!!![]()
That might be because the wording of your question and the fact that you area new member could be taken for a troll by an anti-hunting / shooting organisation.![]()
oh definitely not, i have just been brought up in a family where not alot of food is wasted and was curious as to what everyone else thought.

I think the enjoying killing thing can easily be misunderstood. I don't suspect people get some sort of sick buzz from it that will spark early physiological worries of them turning into Jack The Ripper a few years down the line.
People will say they hunt for food or pest control. Unless you are being paid for pest control or you are jobless & starving but own an air rifle, I think the real reason is obvios.
Looks like I will be the only one who really admits that I enjoy it ALL, the stalking and the humane killing. I am not sick, and I am humane. I only ever take shots on if I can get a clear headshot, that's probably the reason for my low kill count- I'm just being honest
theo what if an animal was just in a cage in your garden and it was going to be killed if you didnt do it, no stalking or anything else envolved just the killing, do you think you would still enjoy it?
No I would not enjoy this at all. The reason hunting is enjoyable is because we convince ourselves we are doing it for a reason (pest control, food etc) so that makes it "OK"
Real reason we do it because we love feeling like 'hunters' by stalking and killing, bringing the food home to our wifes etc, it goes back to the days of cavemen, it's in our blood.
Some people just cover it up with bullsh*t about pest control
I do it because I enjoy every element of it, and if I didn't... well then I wouldn't do it.
