Yes I hunt and I eat all I can. I have even been after recipes to make soup from rabbit bones. If you are going to kill an animal that is edible you should show respect by using every scrap of goodness from it. My wife can get three good meals from one chicken when some people eat the breast and maybe a drumstick and throw the rest away. This is a subject I am passionate about, I cant stand wasted food

Ian please think about what I am saying before you get annoyed

We all take pleasure in killing, or we wouldn't do it. When you see the rabbit drop, do you feel bad? exactly. Be honest with yourself.

I have full respect for quarry, I said you have to be humane, and I am.

I am just being honest in the fact I do enjoy it, I enjoy it all, stalking, killing, eating. And so do you or you wouldn't do it?

As for the ban, come off it. The ban will be because of people being killed by air guns by guns being in the wrong hands, not because an insured pest controller enjoys doing his job

Yes I do feel bad when I kill a rabbit, I got the adrenaline rush beforehand on my first kill and still do to some extent but the killing is the bit I dont enjoy. And I am being honest with myself. On the general license the only reason you can have for killing is pest control, if you said you are killing only to eat or because you enjoy it, that is TECHNICALLY illegal, although you would never find yourself in court for it. hunting for the sheer enjoyment of it was what put the nail in the coffin for the foxhunters (and they deserved it IMO) We are PEST CONTROLLERS first and foremost and if you want to eat a few there are no laws against that.

If you feel bad when you do it, why do you do it? I'm sure you can afford to eat otherwise and I'm sure if it's pest control for a farmer that theres 1 million and 1 other guys who would happily take your place. I think you must enjoy it, but won't admit it. Which is fine, I made a predection that 8/10 people would say this sort of thing.

Fox hunting was banned because it was inhumane & unnecessary.

I enjoy the stalking and fieldcraft skills and I like having a gun, I like going out hunting, its just that the actual killing is a necessary evil, like the gutting and skinning, you cant be squeemish, you just have to get stuck in. Believe me Leo, I dont enjoy the killing, like I said, I get an adreneline rush when I'm squeezing the shot off but it doesnt make me happy to kill a defenceless creature. The whole hunting experience, on balance, does make me happy. This is the only way I can think of to explain it. I think we will have to agree to disagree

No problem. Some people do all that though without a gun and take a camera, I think Poacher mentioned this above. You could try that? You get to do all the stuff you enjoy but don't have to kill

There has been some controversial conversation, going on during the summer months about shooting young (small) rabbits, I was on my shoot when doing long range targets, the land owner pointed out through his binoculars what these plague of young rabbits were devastating (a area of half an acre) one particular field, right next to a very large warren ...I was told in know uncertain words, wipe em out, OK sent me buddy down, to the far end, did a cross shoot of em, ...that's a shooter at two points, not in direct aim of each-other.

There was no buzz, no enjoyment, and definitely no enjoyment of killing ...it was just, pest control to keep the owners costs down and secure my long range target permission ... when no more rabbits came out in large numbers, the burrow were ferreted, I have not seen any rabbits there since ..not saying how many we got, but there where a fare few, the last three weeks I have visited my mate, in the country I have enjoyed a very tender rabbit stew, that's the only enjoyment I have, and continue to enjoy of shooting those young rabbits ...Do I enjoy killing, yes ..but only RATS. ...wheres my helmet
My gun's are tool's not weapons

    .

This thread has gone way off track...

Waste good meat...most of us wouldn't dare...but 'fashions', 'lifestyles' change, ask peeps of an older generation.

Human behaviour...we have shown oourselves very good at 2 things...procreation and decimation of our own kind and worse with other species.

This is a condition only our species seems to exhibit...

    Sorry to be so deep.
