After many kills I decided to prepare one myself !!!

Well after many kills and supplying others to prepare and eat i decided to prepare my first rabbit last night after watching a vid on YouTube by Mark Gilchrist

I skinned him within 15mins no problem but when it came to removing the insides it all got abit messy! I have watched loads of vids and spoke to friends but mine seemed more messy, but finally gutted and cleaned I left it in salt water over night and are now boiling it for 2-1/2 hrs then I will pick all the meet off and dress it in olive oil and are planing on making a rabbit and pasta in tomato and basil sauce,

I will let you know how I get on

I watched that video too. He made it look well easy. I got my 1st ever rabbit last night and gutted it in the field. Will be attempting to skin it and soak it in salt water today. Any help would be appreciated.

If I'm taking rabbits home, then I gut them in the field - my preferred method is the 'flick'; slice down the rabbit, from sternum to groin, grab both front legs in one hand, both back legs in the other, with the belly facing the ground, and flick (quite hard) the majority of the guts will come out of the animal. This method takes about 30 seconds, allows the meat to cool faster, and makes easier carrying, due to getting rid of all the excess weight.

    Well done.
My first attempt at gutting & skinning took me two hours
But then I only have one & a half hands, so some things do take a little longer.
