    Decoying Woodies?

Periodically (once every few days - they usually use the next field down) I get up to a dozen or so woodies come into the field that backs onto my house (that I have permission on) they land and peck the grass. Ive got a perfect hide in the hedgrow where I can often creep into - the only problem is the woodies are always 60 yards plus out.

So - Ive bought half a dozen decoy shells, and intend to put them out but closer - 30 yds. In a horseshoe pattern, facing wind etc...

    Will this draw them in?

Can I just leave the decoys out perminantly?

Any other tips I need to know?

decoys in a u shape or semi-circle facing into the wind should work , try an L shape and if you watch the woodies in the field see if they feed in pairs some do and set your decoys the same ,. make sure your deeks are on thier flight path as they normaly keep to the same routine
A small feedin table with feed or a bird bath can also work.
    hope this helps

Best of luck mate. I've failed miserably trying to decoy woodies on grass or clover. They just don't want to know.

When decoying with the air rifle I generally use lofted birds when I'm shooting birds on the ground, and decoy shells on the ground when I'm shooting birds out of trees. The reason for this apparent madness is that woodies become skittish when they see the deek is a plastic pigeon rather than their cousin Eric. By putting deeks on the ground near a sitty tree I can usually guarantee that some will perch in the tree. If I put lofted deeks in the trees near an area where pigeons have been seen to feed then some will drop into the crop. The ones that settle near the deeks generally don't hang around long.

i find sometimes a lone pigeon or a pair can be very effective, and they are easier to carry than a whole load of Deeks!

aways found decoying woodies works best with shotguns and not airguns, shooting them as they come in to land
