David, The clue is in the phrase "to prevent serious damage to crops". Could you convince a Magistrate that the pigeons were causing serious damage to crops, being your domestic produce, and that you could not prevent this using netting of other deterrents? I personally don't think so but the law is after all merely interpretations on words.
Thank you Clive, it was nice to get away

Greg you are right. It has been mentioned in the Air mags I've read that as well in Air gunner September 2009 page 71. Title is Pooling Power caption uder title " Steve Price baits pigeons with nothing more but water and a few scraps of bread".

Andy, you are very knowledgeable but come across a bit harsh. I to was under the belief that it was ok to bait a breed of animal that deemed to be a pest. If this is not the case then a major magezine (which is ment to be helping the sport) is failing, and giving out inaccurate information which could get you into trouble with the RSPCA.
Looks like David, as put the cat amok's the pigeons there (No pun intended)..and David, if 'harsh' is being straight and speaking my mind, then so be it ....

Yes, it seems that it wasn't actually an airgun article in the Airgun Magazine, but a survival article for the benefit of Australians (who incidentally don't have wood pigeons) so they can get home to their families safe, providing they have a bowl of water, loaf of bread and an air rifle to hand of course. And all the photos weren't taken in the UK where baiting pigeons with bread could be unlawful, even though the article implied that they were, and it's all a misunderstanding because a magazine writer wrote it all down instead of speaking it. But it doesn't really matter because all fees were allegedly donated to charity.

    So that's allright then

I know. But in order for it to get proven you first have to be caught. I am not suggesting for one second that anyone should break the law, I am a (fairly) decent, law abiding citizen but this "baiting for woodpigeon" subject does seem to be somewhat of a grey area. I have been reading alot of interesting threads/posts on the subject and there seems to be contradicting evidence in my mind.
I'm never going to try it myself as I don't see the need and don't want to take the risk, but now even decoying is looking like a grey area
