Thank you.
Thanks for the info. Well written and very informative. Will be taking all points on board when trying to gain pemission.
Keep up the good work.
very helpfull thankyou ill get myself down the local farmers pub n offer the drink i guess cheers
when i first started out, me and my shooting buddy, took a day off work and drove around all the local golf courses and farms, by the end of the day we had a shoot. Golf courses tend to be easier than farms in my experience and once your on one , you get offers for others in the area. Or alternatively if your near essex theres always petes airgun farm £10 for a days shooting game or target (he has a range on his farm) you need to be a basc member though
Just to add to this. I have been E-mailing and sending letters to lots of farms over the past few months explaining my situation and how I could possibly be of service to them, if indeed they would let me.
I have had some positive replys and some not so positive and some haven't replied at all, which brings me on to my point. One of my shooting buddys went beating today and got chatting to one of the shooters afterwards, as it turns out that this chap was one of the farms I e-mailed. They started on the subject or air rifles and how we have been looking for more shooting grounds, at this point the shooter told him that he had recieved an e-mail from somebody (me) and that he wouldn't reply to it as he would only allow someone who had taken the effort to actually come and visit him. Anyway after a brief 20 minute discussion my mate has now acquired us 200 acres of farm land to shoot on.
So what I am trying to say is if you don't recieve a reply it is well worth actually putting in that little bit more effort and visiting the permission you wish to acquire(not straight away). Worked for us and is what I shall be doing in the future.
Thanks mate as a newcomer this is one of the reasons I joined the site, I have the advantage of using my friends field at the bcak of his house. It is like a little farm just a couple of little fields but the surronding area is farmland for miles. there are loads of rabbits and i have had a couple of pigeons. I would love to go else were tho i would like to hunt magpies pigeon and grey squirell, and i would like to try out some new and larger land. Some woods, somewere what isnt a open space so i have more cover.
But like many I live in the city and find it hard even finding a farm to ask, so i am going for a drive in the counrty with my misses and I am going to try and find some land to shoot on. the opening post was great advise for me as I am from the city and have never even seen a farmer before.
I cant wait to see how this thread pans out, thanks again for the opening post.![]()
I have just read the post about sending out 20 letters to farms in the are and It is the best idea i have ever heard.
I am going to on net to search for farms in the middlands now. thanks buddy this is great.
Phoned over 20 farms and fisheirs today, mostly got no but 3 people took my number and I left a coupkle of answer phone msg's.
Sounded like i came close a couple of times so I am still motivated.
How did you get on jay sniper?
I'm still to seek permissions, but I think when I do I'll find it tough because of my age. I'm 20, 21 in july, and I consider myself very mature; however unless folk know me personally I doubt they're going to take me seriously.
I'm currently asking friends and family if there is anyone they know, and try to pull in some favours I'm owed.
If that fails, I have a friend who is in a "Young Farmers Association" (despite not owning a farm) and she may know someone who'll grant me permission. My rifle arrives this week, and I've still nowhere to shoot
