Have to say that I do like the Grey Squirrel! but I also love shooting them. Ive had 15 since September last year onlt 3 have fallen to my rifle all the others have been caught in a cage trap or one of 2 Kania 2000 humane traps (kills them out right)

The permission I shoot on is in a village and is a very large garden the lady gave me permission after seeing a card that a local butcher let me display in his shop.

Ive seen Red Squirrels when I was up in Grantown on Spey back in 1978 but when I was posted to Germany I used tose them daily from my billet window.

If you look for the dreys (their untidy, nests) you will find them. They are usually not far from food sources: chestnut, oak, beech, hazel are their favourites. You need to keep still to see them. They have a perfect vantage point from up high. EARLY morning, they come down on the ground and dig up their food stores. The same in the last of the evening light. I have had them within a few feet when I have been sat, waiting for a deer.

We've never had black squirrel around the Northwich. We've had albino greys though at Marbury, someone's dog got them and there wasn't much left after The ranger won't let me shoot the squirrels or rabbits up there, even around the outdoor pool (which is shut off to the public over winter and on summer evenings).

Interesting according to the map there have been sightings in my village and also in the area of my newest permission. Think I'd better bring forward my planned foray into the woods and earn me some pellets!!
