Although there were pleanty of the buggers, just couldn't get close enough. Think I have to practise my stalking haha! Never mind, first time out and all, can't expect to be an expert just yet! I did however, have a shot at a squirrel, but missed. I must have judged the distance wrong. Never mind eh, another hunt planned next weekend!![]()

Practise, if you have a dog, when you take it for a walk, try walking without making a noise, look at objects and guess the distance, then pace it out. Its all practice, remember that rabbits have not got the best eyesight, but they see movment, so sloooowwww, and if they turn and look, just stay still. NO DEODERANT OR SOAP before you go, they can smell that a mile of, and tip for you gear, dont wash it in wash powder, that brightness the wash powder gives you clobber, well it stands out more to rabbits. I just wash mine in water with no detergent. Are your hand and face covered???
Look forward to your first story when you get your first, good luck

If you know where they are and where they run off to when you spook them, get yourself into position and lie and wait. They will be back!!

I had 3 rabbits from ferreting on saturday. One of them had 4 babies inside, which looked like they were ready to be born. Strange for this time of year. Must be down to the warm winter we have had. Although, with the cold spell we are about to have this month, I doubt they would have survived. A shame, but my snakes did enjoy them. Waste not want not my gran used to say!

When i hunt rabbits i will usually start off by finding some nice cover overlooking an area of rabbit activity and wait silently & completely still untill they come out. If stalking rabbits i find you can get closer to them by breaking up your outline by keeping low and close to hedgerows or available cover... try to do everything as slowly as you can.... If a rabbit is in open ground such as towards the middle of a field the only way i can get close is by advancing commando style whilst almost lying flat on my front. Being downwind also helps alot... if the wind is behind you then they will likely smell you coming and are spooked easier. I'd say rabbits are amongst the hardest things to hunt so as everyone says keep practicing your stalking & put in as many hours target practice as you can from different shooting positions. Good luck mate, you will get one soon![]()
