    First time out, no joy!

    Good morning all,

Well after a 200 mile trip to pick up my Crossman Phantom yesterday. I went out for the first time with my mate to his permission.

Firstly the Crossman Phantom - Very good, nice and light and easy for me to handle. However this is my first air rifle so whatever i had chosen to buy i would have been happy with!

The big adventure - So i got there at 7pm and proceeded to set up the scope with my mates laster sighter? No excuses for missing a shot now!

Started to walk and got two shots off at some woodies which were tucked up for the night in a tree. No luck. Mooched about for about an hour, plenty of bunny's around but nothing within range. Eventually come across a little spinny which was full of crows. Again we both got a couple of shots, no joy for me but my mate got one which procceded to become Ferrett food shortly after. Walk back to the car and didnt see anything else. Only out for a total of 2 hours.

Loved the whole experience, cant wait to actually hit something! Main thing i learnt was that i need to loose some weight as it felt like i'd run a marathon by the time i was back at the car.

Well hopefully be back soon with a story tell of a couple of kills.

    Cheers

    Chris

Did you use a lamp for the woodies and crows, if so that's illegal and unsportly. I'm glad you enjoyed your first trip though It will only get better! Stick within the law though

    Hello mate,

Nope, no lamp. Apart from it being illegal I think they would have flown off if we had of used one anyways.
Also thanks for mentioning that as i was not aware that was illegal and may have been tempted in the future.

Thats another thing i noticed though, and thats how visible the birds are agianst the relativley clear night sky we had last night.

    Lots to learn!

    Cheers Chris

Well done mate it'll be different every time you go out
If it's your first rifle I'd suggest having plenty of practice and learning the trajectory of the pellet you're using before going after live quarry again
Glad you enjoyed it though and as bertti said stick within the law

Do not fear law abiding is my middle name. Seriously though, I think its bad enough the reputation that people with air guns have already, without adding me adding to it.Also its only the first rifle I have personally owned. I spent many years in the ATC firing .22's. and L98 but as they say practice makes perfect. But thanks for the concern and advise it is appreciated.CheersChris

Lamping for game or birds (of any species other than feral pigeons) is illegal, Den77, but for vermin mammals it's legal.
