    Angry Bill from electrician....

I came home the other morning and the Mrs informed me that the electric was tripping out all the downstairs sockets. So I phoned a local Electrician and he came out later in the afternoon. He stayed for half an hour and could not find the fault then left. We systematically took all the plugs out of the sockets and replaced them one by one until we found the faulty appliance, job sorted.
I received a bill through the post yesterday morning for £130.00 from the electrician and was horrified Now is it just me or do you think this was a bit much for half an hours work and he never fixed/found the fault.
    ATB Pete.

I wouldn't pay it, you telling me that he's on £260 a hour. This is how they rip people off, most stupid people would just pay it and that's what he's hoping you will do.

In fact send him a bill back stating that you have an administration fee for opening mail through your door and it is £130.00

Ask him for a breakdown of the bill. I did this with a plumber i called out when i could'nt get the pilot light to work. He turned up and took the cover off and found a bit of muck on the jet. Put it back together and got it working. Total time in my house, inc drinking his cuppa. 20mins. He then asked for £92.87p I asked him to break the bill down so i could see why it was so high. He waffled on about vat, call out charges and labour. Then agreed to accept £35 cash in hand. Argue with him and stand your ground, He's ripping you off.

If he hadn't got the brains to turn off all sockets and identify the problem methodically he wasn't a sparky tell him so and then tell him to go whistle any court would laugh at a claim by him!

As a professional he has a 'duty of care' which clearly he failed to discharge.
