Perhaps now that the country is in the grips of recession and all public bodies are trying to cut almost every non essential cost possible, it may be a good time for Joe Public to start lobbying the PM?
After all, how much of the taxpayers money is frittered away sending armed response squads or helicopter search parties out to catch the heinous villain that dares to put a few pellets into an old tin can in a remote public woodland/field.
Come on Dave give us our rights back - as a sensible grown up I am pretty sure I can take my airgun (not firearm) into a remote public place without shooting anyone!

My gun's are tool's not weapons.. http://blackcountryhistory.org/colle.../GB145_p_1302/
Its a nice dream Phil, and one that i will continue to hope for, but call me a pesimist i just dont think it will happen.
Also when im on my permission im the boss if someone who shouldnt be there gets in my way then i can tell them very politley to bugger off and another thing can you imagine the bad publicity the sport would start getting from idiots running around the countryside with airifles we would start seeing alot of wounded quarry from people just taking pot shots at anything moving, if you have to go to the trouble of getting a permission the chances are your a considerate person and not a mindless thug. The law is at times a heavy burden to bare but having to get permission to shoot on land offers us quite alot of protection when someone breaks the law with an airifle we can distance ourselves from there insane behaviour with permission slips and insurance in hand.
A nice thought in a perfect world unfortunatly we live in this one
Oh I know, I am just a grumpy old man who is fed up of the nanny state which gives me less freedom now than I had 30 years ago... lol.
Unfortunately I don't want to go down the hunting route (although I can understand where you guys are at) so asking permission to shoot tins in a field seems odd. I did the range and live ammo thing to boredom with my son about 6 years ago (and their books are full now anyway) so unless I buy myself a private woodland (like that's gonna happen) it looks as though my shooting is curtailed to the garden subject to it not overly annoying the neighbours and the pellets not leaving the garden of course.
The most annoying thing is, the Council own a large disused field behind my house where I could safely set up some great targets and could have shot quite happily and safely as a boy.
