Had recent problems with one of the other carriers. (Forgot which one!) Had a towbar delivered off eBay. Like Tadpole we got a "couldn't deliver" note although there were three of us here all day! Useless !
What annoys me about that is that surely its more effort to write the darn note out than to bang on the door and drop off the parcell?!

I live out in the sticks, and you have to open a gate and walk a few yards to get to the door. The post box is on the gate. It was raining that day as well. I did tell the guy who sold me the towbar, but heard nothing back from him (The firm did deliver the next day so there was no real problem apart from waiting for the parcel) What really annoys me about all these carriers is that they always say "We will only deal with the person paying for the carriage" ie the person or company you have paid for the carriage. Nice "out" for them.

My neighbour told me they had waited sometime for a parcel and when they looked into it they was told it had been picked up with a sorry you are out card the man hadn't put the card in the letter box properly and was taken out by a pizza leaflet bloke

if you imagine how much mail and parcels they shift! they come into a lot of criticism but 99% dont appreciate what they do !

But it is very annoying when something does not arrive! if you ask me Couriers are worse than Royal mail!

Must admit I seem to very lucky when it comes to parcels etc, our postie has been the same one for as long as we have lived in our house, if we are not around to accept the parcel he drops it off at my other halfs dads house just down the road. We reward our postie at xmas etc because he is so reliable.

Parcels seem much the same, i use parcel2go to send off my ebay stuff (seems much cheaper than going direct to couriers), we tend to get the same chappie turning up at around the same time. Although when I lived at home a few years ago gettings things delivered was a much more unpredictable ball game.

My postie just leaves parcels outside the door, which is fairly annoying, last christmas i had a brand new ipod, a present for my girlfriend left outside my front door in the rain for 2 days!

why does it say on the card leave 48 hours before collecting.
I've worked as a postie in the past and can tell you the answers for those 2 questions.
After problems with items left with neighbours, Such things like, Neighbours denying they had the item or not being around when the person went round to collect it. Complaints from customers that their post should be delivered to THEM prompted the Royal Mail to advise posties not to leave parcels with neighbours. The answer is; When your expecting a parcel leave a note visable to the postie with instructions as what you want him to do. e.g. Please leave at number xx or Please ring bell as i'm out the back. etc.
The 2nd point about waiting 48 hours before collecting the parcel was again prompted by complaints from customers who would turn up to get their parcel only to find it's not there because the postie has'nt finnished his round etc. So to guarantee YOU dont have a wasted journey collection the next day is advised. You can go to pick up the item before the 48 hrs and it will be handed over if it's there but be aware you have to leave enough time for the postie to finnsh his round and get back to the sorting office.
As to the many complaints about the Royal Mail from you guys on here. I agree with most of them. I think the service is pi$$ poor and having seen what happens to standard parcels, I will only send parcels by Special delivery and insist sellers use it to send items to me. (It's worth paying the extra) atb.

But why take it all the way back to town when we have a village post office. ? That way it would be even better, as I would not have to pay parking fees.
