The amount of times i've had 2nd hand scopes on guns e.t.c that the previous owner has overtightened the scope mount bolts is rediculous. Either rounded bolt heads or rings on scope ... It's perfectly possible to tighten bolts enough without causing damage.![]()

Pulling the trigger, is the point of no return, but it all depends on what your aiming at.
We had a lad in the department (Motor Vehicle) at the college I work in a few years ago who managed to snap both of the caliper carrier bolt heads of on the front brake assembly of a BMW 316. He didn't know which direction of rotation would loosen or tighten, got it wrong and snapped the first head off. He then had another attempt and di the same with the second. Okay, we've all wound the head off a bolt at some point, but not usually by overtightening, not usually on M12 bolts, either! The really frighteneing thing was that he wasn't usung a bar or anything like that - just a normal half-inch ratchet handle!
Is his name arnie by any chance???
