It's discrimination for sure. The excuse is that the unemployed are a greater risk as they are "driving around looking for work" so therefore more chance of having an accident. Truth is they are less likely to be driving anymore than they were when they were travelling to work everyday.

Personally I would avoid LV like the plague. I wrote my wifes car off last year "shortened it by a couple of feet "it was my fault I slid on a patch of spilt diesel outside a works entrance. I was fully comp and insured by LV. They did pay up on our car, was not worth much anyway. Couple of months later I got a letter from the insurers of the car I had hit saying that as LV had not paid up they were taking me to court for recovery of £4000 damage to this motor. My solicitor said this was in order and they could do this if LV did not pay up. THere was no dispute over the claim, I discovered later that LV are very bad payers and wont pay untill threatened with action. Was all OK in the end but the threat of court action almost had my old wife in hospital with worry. Had the cheek this year to try to load me up on my car insurance for the accident! So I too am now with the AA.
when I die dont let my wife sell my guns for what she thinks I gave for them.

Two years ago I was clubbed from behind and Direct Line kindly handled everything for me. They arranged collection of the car and took it to their chosen repair centre. The repair centre went bust whilst the car was being repaired. Direct line told me to take it up with the creditors (KPMG). Two weeks later I threatened KPMG with reporting the car stolen and that I knew where it was located. They released the car immediately and refunded my excess. Insurance is fine until you have an accident; be careful out there. Avoid Direct Line for sure.
