Sad but fuel for the "anti squad"

Th recent shooting where a depresed man has killed 3 females then himself with a shotgun, is very sad. But it was mentioned on tv today "Why was he allowed shotguns if he is depressed" Now you know whats to follow, the anti do gooding squad will be calling for tighter measures.
It wont matter that, once he made his mind up to kill, it was made up, and the shotgun was the tool he used.
The ex police man (round the corner from me) also chose to kill, so slaughtered his wife and six year old child with a knife, attempted to kill his outher two before he turned the knife on himself.
Its very very sad when some one does this type of thing, but i personaly think its a crime to punish all because of these sick people.

it is very sad that some people resort to that. but the think that got on my nerves was that on the news they said something like " he also had several semi auto matic guns".

The ignorance of people always comes out when something tragic happens like this. As you say mega, once someone like this decides to kill either therself or others, it is too late to stop them. If he did not own a gun he would have chosen another weapon such as a knife or the car or whatever else will allow him to achieve his goal.

I was told by my FEO that if I got into any trouble that was violent, they would remove my guns immediately and decide if you are fit to have them back later. I am surprised that if the police were aware of him being suicidal or depressed that they renewed his licence let alone not removing his guns until they had made in informed judgment. If that is the case then it seems that someone has not done their job correctly, however we rarely get the full and correct story through the press. All they are looking to do is cook things up into a news selling story for us consumers of bull ****.

Agreed hun, once the mind set has been commited to then its the choice of articale/object that is then used. Sadly it was too late in this case for anyone to diffuse the situation. It could have been a car, knife or other means but the main thing is for people to support the family right now and for the coming months and not focus on the object that he used.

I think the focus on this one will be the Police Force and not the licensing system in general. There is a current trend for the media to "discredit" the Police wherever possible and I expect it is they who will be in the spotlight. If you are aware of the Ryan/Hamilton saga's then you will be aware that the police were under scrutiny then for not doing enough to stop them. This may turn out to be another case of dropping the ball for the Police.
