if you never took out the insurance to cover the cost of the item if lost or damaged there is not a lot you can do. i sent an item to germany and the insurance came in the price so check your reciept if it was a special delivery

That will cover you for 40 quid. Pics before posting might be needed and condition of packing upon receipt of item too.
Tricky one but if you both work together on this there maybe a good outcome.

What always gets me angry in situations like this is the whole issue of insurance..
We enter into a contract with the royal mail for an item to be delivered.
We pay for that service (over the odds)
    THEN
Then they ask us to pay for insurance...... insurance for what precisely?... Oh yeah let me think...Insurance in case THEY, in their never ending bumbling incompetence screw the entire task up by destroying/damaging/losing my property.

When I take my car to the garage to be fixed, the garage doesnt ask me to take out a special insurance in case their mechanic loses the car, or sets its on fire...No, if that happens THEIR insurance covers it.

When I was working as a roofer I didnt ask each client whether they would care to pay for insurance against my incompetence .

My advice to you is fight fight fight..they took your money, they entered into a contract and THEY failed to complete the job in a competent manner, threaten them with the small claims court, just dont give them a moments peace until they give you what they owe you. If we had all stood up for what we know to be correct over the last 30 years maybe our country wouldnt be such a mess..
Rant over..... and just for the mods.. not even one tiny attempt to bypass the swear filter I`m going outside to cuss at the dog now..

well johns knives are on there way back to him so once i recieve the scope i have a cliams form they have given me to complete so with some luck and as little swear words as possible i will hopefully get it sorted

last year i bought a dvd boxset from ebay in november and it arrived in june so i went through my sent emails and messaged the guy who had sent them and re-sent him the cash as paypal had reimbursed me and he was still in a dispute with royal fail over the loss of the item ......... it really puts you off using them

    howlin,
sorry to hear that mate, tbh don't hold your breath, a few years ago i sent cash (foolish now i know) for a hifi tuner £50 to be precise via recorded signed for, after two days the seller still hadn't recieved his money so i used rm's track and trace service, it turns out the envelope only made it to newton abbot sorting office (all of 3 miles away) and after i issued a formal complaint i was told a sorter must of taken the cash and threw the envelope away as they couldent find it, all i got was an apology from a manager and a book of 6 SECOND class stamps, oh and a lecture on how its not safe to send cash through recorded signed for.
so quite what purpose 'recorded' serves im not sure.

anyway its a bit late now, a case of 'close the gate after the horse has bolted' but if i ever send anything i sell on fleabay i use these http://www.parcel2go.com/ ive never had a problem and they collect from your house and are excellent on price, you choose the courier depending on the price, ive always used DHL.

im just sorry i cant help more
    regards simon

just one of those things i guess take it as a bad experience and hope the guy isnt to miffed with me have asked if he has a price on the knife once things are sorted as i really fell in love with that one (i know its not normal behaviour but it was a beauty to me anyway)
still angry as hell but thats not going to sort it out is it
