    Power settings

Hi all this is not intended to be a power settings thread but what i find most problamatic is the fact that we here a lot of threads regarding air- rifles being "over - under powered" for example the bsa r10 being one of them being sold at 10 foot lb etc etc etc also of some even being proved to be over 12 foot lb. (illegal) I do know a bit about power settings as i held a fac for many years and have come across people that have had there guns checked and have been slightly over the limit of 12 foot lb and could quite easily have been confiscated. Even if your gun is 12.1 foot lb it should carry a fac and we all know what happens if you cant produce one if your stopped by the police. My question is this::A lot of guns being sold now carry a tamper proof device the bsa R10 is one of them in question. Now as we know we are responsible for our own guns problem is how do we make sure our gun is legal if we cant get at the power settings to keep it legal, on the other hand we are allowed 12 foot lb so how do we get at the settings to get it somewhere near i.e 11.5 to be safe to use that extra bit of power.Well we all know what we have to do and thats send it back to to big guys JB ,, BSA, the shop, to name but a few to get it put right how often have we heard of people sending our guns back to bsa etc and they have come back the same, are these anti tamper proof device put on to keep the gunsmiths in work i wonder as i cant see any other reason to put them there.Im sure most responsible airgunners own a cronogragh of some sort but all it does is to tell the owner that its "over" or "Under" the limit" apart from variations in shot strings etc so whats the point if you cant alter the darn thing when the makers stop you from adjusting it because of these devices.I bought my R10 (£450.00) second hand in good faith and it only put out 530 fps using 14g pellets (just under 9FT LB.) I was lucky i new how to put mine right if i hadn't off it would have gone to the big guys ..more expence. Lets be fair a lot of people save hard to buy there pride and joy then they have to pay the top guys to put things right because they arn't allowed to do it themselves because of these anti tamper devices.// Any takers..

Perhaps you better learn mate rather than have someone else set your gun as high as 11.8. Thats a tad too high! IMHO
when I die dont let my wife sell my guns for what she thinks I gave for them.

I would think most people would prefer the manufacturer to do any adjustments, at least while its under warranty. after that just take the anti tamper off, or get a competent smith to do so. as far as the owner is concerned after the warranty has expired there is no benefit from an anti tamper device. non are difficult to remove, its more of a warranty seal than anything else

Anti tamper was put on by the airgun trade (devised by the like of Terry Doe) so that you will have to send it to the manufacturer to get it fixed, adjusted whatever. A money making scam.

I used to have friends on the *B.B.S*. But they decided that anti tamper was the way forward and didn't want to upset Doe and his cronies. Well I suppose they weren't really friends after all.
