just given my 18 year old son a right rollocking

some have you may have noticed in my recent posts an underlying air of tension and sarcasm... truth is i've been getting steadily peeved off with my 18 year old son, recent new air gun legislation and smug comments aside when said teenage son is keeping my wife, my 15 year old son and myself awake till 3-4 in the morning most nights with his bloody xbox things are going to come to a head....

this morning he was late for collage again yet still he's turning the xbox on!!! sorry but it was the last straw for me and said xbox went flying, £150 turtle beach xbox headset... flying!... i gave him the rollocking of his life.

basically his late night gaming despite his assertions he's being quiet are keeping us all up. tried taking it away tried disconnecting him yet still he wont just go to bloody sleep... then in the morning we cant wake him up and yes i have allready chucked a bucket of water over him before and what a bloody mess it made too!

he should be working or at least looking for a job, all he gets at the moment is £30 ema which pays for his bus fare and £10 towards house keeping!
he's on about joining the marines yet cant be bothered to train! has already been turned down once now he's waiting for another letter for interview... like thats going to happen!

basically told him at 18 he's a man and needs to be paying his way or at least making an effort and if he cant do as he's told and abide by our rules in our home he can bloody move out!

absolutely fuming this morning, lost my voice and probably went way overboard with the rant but...
why are teenagers so obnoxious, rude, lazy and arrogant? we're just trying to help them for gods sake!!! and they just dont see it!!! i was never this bad at his age and all ready at 18 had a full time job and brand new bike!

We all say "we were never that bad at this age" but............. I bet if you ask the majority of our parents we probably were, just in different ways, although i do agree that the younger generations do seem to have less respect for people and possessions in general now days (this is a generalisation)

i know... just seems its getting worse every new generation!
ever since they banned the cane, parents can no longer smack there kids, the police darnt lay a hand prisons are full and judges have gone soft in the head it's just escalating out of control!

that aside i love my son but he just manages to peeve me off with some of the things he says when your trying to help him help himself!

got his xbox opened up at the moment and think i've fixed it and his head set seems to be working fine. already had his mother on the phone wanting to here my side of the story as now he's afraid to come home... jees, he came to live with me when he was eleven.

fixed his xbox, seems when i slammed my fist down on it several times the plastic returned to shape but the metal underneath didnt. the disc tray wouldnt open. took the casing off and straightened the disc tray cover and the metal pannel under the plastic cover tested it and it seems to be fine.

im not sorry for having a go at him he deserved it, i just hope he see's that.

Mark, at 17 & 18 I was a total & utter cnut - no denials. I had similar late-night shouting matches with my old man - to my eternal shame I even loaded my HW80 and aimed it at him once (we've NEVER spoken about that particular incident again.) Admittedly it was my new-found financial freedom (I was working at the Post Office from leaving school until I joined the army), subsequent going out on the p155 and bringing random birds home for a bit of rumpy-pumpy that were the issues at my end (only had a ZX Spectrum back then - X-Box was the work of Sci-Fi )

I'm not going to tell you how to be a dad (it's all very new to me with our wee girl only being 2 & a half) but maybe the level-headed & adult way to deal with the X-Box scenario is to just walk in, say absolutely nothing, switch it off, unplug it and take it away instead of allowing your self-control to dwindle to the point where you're within a breath of tumbling about the floor with your lad trading elbow & knee shots

My old man & I get along great now. We've had our ups & downs since then but on the whole we're good mates - we see the world differently, sure, but we still know what's what with one another.

Sadly this is what happends when you bottle stuff up.
You have quite rightly put him in his place but now you need to just keep on top of it in a adultly manor and you will both know where you stand.

    very true

but when you've been a parent for a full 18 year stretch watching yourself go grey and wrinkly while the best years of your live melt away as your children take priority you can start getting a little fed up with the know it all attitude and growing lack of respect! keeping on top of three teenage kids is not easy trying your hardest to stop them turning into chavy scrotes when the only ones they do listen too and respect are other 18 year old chavy scrotes!

seems to be around 14 or 15 they stop finding your jokes funny, think they know it all and start giving you lip.

been on my sons back for weeks now about going to bed and getting up in the morning and nagging him about work.

like i said this morning was the last straw.

as for tumbling around the floor trading blows he's never had more than a slap round the back of the head from me and i know he's still s### scared of me being twice his size and ex army. hopefully he get the point now

i still and always will love the little ####

If it helps with input from the "younger and irrisponsible generation"
I'm 18, full time job monday to sat, and with quite a few responsibilities. My cnutish days were back when i was around 16 but as soon as I left school I got myself a job straight away after the summer holidays! Get it all out his system I say and make him find a job. Give him something to do. If not try finding apprenticeships, he will learn a a trade and get qualifications.
I'm still thinking of applying for the royal marines to become a mountain leader, after I finish my qualifications here.

    Remember, We aren't all bad!

I don't think so, by 18 I was in a decent job, earning decent money and had been for the past two years.
