    Hey,
I've been thinking of buying me a bow to start some backyard shooting. I have no idea on what type of bow to get. Could anyone sort of tell me some stuff about different types of bow and point me to a direction to start searching.

Well I haven't shot any bows for a long time but I think for a beginner a simple recurve bow would be a great place to start, don't go for anything over 30lbs to start with till you have the correct technique then working upto a compound bow once you have the basics.
Oh don't forget the tab and brace too

I am no bow expert either but to give you some basics:

There are 2 types of bow recurve and compound. Recurve bows are the traditional type bows typically either wood or fibre glass and relatively cheap. Pull the string back (if you can ) And let it go.
Compound bows are the ones with all the pulleys etc on. These allow you to get a steady aim as once you have pulled the string back it takes the tension off so you can comfortably hold it back unlike a recurve bow which is allways wanting to twang back.
These are typically more expensive and can achieve higher powers.

Well I say that but it depends how strong you are and what poundage of draw you can pull/hold

I have met guys who shoot old English longbows which are something like 200lb if I remember right but whatever they were I could barely move it

Allthough as size has said I would keep bellow 30lb until you have mastered your art and know where you want to go.

Also sign onto a archery forum and you will probably get far more info than from us, Unless we have any archers I am not sure??
