    Insurance

My BASC membership and insurance is soon due for renewal I phoned them to upgrade to a full membership because i now have my FAC, and the price is £66.00 per year.

I was paying £46.00 for just Airgun insurance. Then i was told about SACS membership and insurance, so i decided to give them a ring and was pleasantly surprised at the price they charge for what appears to be as good if not better cover for £30.00 a year, big saving. So I've changed to them.

Insurance is £10,000000 public liability and £100,000 legal costs should you ever need them, It also covers you for any countryside sport even fishing.
Here's the link to have a look and a read of if your interested.

I think the reason people go with basc over others pedro is that basc seem to be the biggest and most pro active shooting organisation in the uk and not just insurers and seem to be highly intrested in promoting safe shooting and the likes plus with basc its same amount of cover 10 mil and also covers fishing archery and others. For that reason im happy to pay a bit extra but personal choice i guess

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not asking or telling anyone to change, I'm just showing an alternative if some people are feeling the pinch. Its better to have insurance of some sort than none at all. I agree the BASC spend a lot more on promoting safe shooting and it all costs money. If it was just a couple of pound difference i wouldn't worry or change, but its not its over double the cost.

Looks good Pedro, but it worries me a little that the site has'nt been updated since 2008. Not sure why, As you said they answer phone calls. One thing to consider is, Will the landowner on your permission accept it, Most have heard of Basc. Just a thought.

I'll let you know when I've had all the membership pack through and had a chance to read through it. I have spoken to my land owners and none showed any concerns at all. Personally I'm not to bothered if they don't have a flash website, So long as i can email or phone them should the need arise.

If you browse around some of the forums that use use bigger caliber FAC rifles you will see that SACS is quite well known and respected. I can well understand why some people are wary when they hear the price.

I gave the details to one of the game keepers last night on a permission i go on, He spoke to them first thing this morning and took out a policy. He phoned me to say thanks and that he had not taken the keeper membership for £18.00, but had opted for the family membership at £40.00 as it covered himself, his wife and also his two sons. So was cheaper working out at £10.00 each for the year.

The BASC would have cost for four individual memberships £264.00. So he saved himself £224.00. Quite a saving. He also liked the fact he was covered worldwide whilst on holiday. I don't think the BASC cover that or give you the same amount of legal cover. please correct me if I'm wrong on the last bits.

All insurance can be a minefield you pays your money and takes your chance. If they can wriggle out of paying they will. However I'm buggered if I'm going to pay over the top for directors to go out wining and dining others on my hard earned cash. Then tell me it is necessary to promote my sport.

You wrong on the last bits. Lol.

The policies provide cover for The British Association for Shooting and Conservation Limited and each member thereof. The Policies cover recreational activities of wildfowling, clay pigeon, rabbit, pigeon, game, deer, vermin and target shooting, airgunning, conservation, hawking, archery, angling and ferreting.
The policies provide worldwide cover with a limitation of 60 days to cover holidays for members resident permanently in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. (Excluding North America & Canada).

BASC Insurance is without a doubt the best in the country. I am biased though.... I got family members that now work in BASC head office in Rosset.

I don't mind you being biased I fully understand your loyalty to the BASC, with family members working for them, do they get any perks in the way of discounts for themselves or family members.

I don't expect everyone to ditch the BASC and go with SACS but there are some good savings to be made in the current financial climate.

I've always used BASC. My shooting club deals with BASC and I get my BASC membership with my annual club fees. I believe we get a small discount.

To be honest I don't mind paying my £60ish pounds a year for my membership. I get a couple of magazines to read in the toilet and peace of mind should anything bad ever happen.

It doesn't seem an unreasonable amount to pay for using my shotgun and air rifle.

BASC are also helping to fight this legislation the Scottish government are intent on bringing in regarding air rifles.
