I did a thread on Lasers a while ago, ( I am not sure which forum )
I bought one as a module from the " Bay " I think it was £40 ish about 3 years ago

Its the Blue one in the Pic, I installed it in an Aluminium torch complete with on/off switch Did I say it is 140 MW
    Its Infra Red
And has a collumating lens ( IE Adjustable for size ) As in the video & projects a " Rectangular " Beam , It was for use on my Night vision gear,

And the other I bought , Its a green laser , 50 MW
I made a housing for this, And collumating lens from a microscope, It projects a beam just like a torch, ( When these beams are enlarged , The flaws in the diodes show up ) At close range, Over 20 yards you can,t see them,

Its very good, Unlike the one in the video, Mine doesn,t need smoke to show the beam , Ha ha,
I have just taken these out of the drawer, they have been there the best part of 3, years & still work,
I,ll have to take some pics of them in action
Especially the tellivisioned screen IR Ged.

I have 4 of the bottom ones, but its only 5mW?

I removed the green crystal from one of them which end up being an IR laser as you describe, long rectangle of light. Works well with the NV at airgun ranges.

I found that you can also just turn the lens thats just under the cap on the green one to act as a columator, but the adjustment on it is limited, a new cap for the lens thats in it would fix that and not dificult on the lathe, only problem is the beam on these cheap ones is off center. :/ Gonna make a new cap at the weekend see what happens.

The flaws on the diode thing I found is actually flaws/dust on the lenses and can be cleaned up to a great extent with a lens pen. Just dont get fingerprints on them again when putting them back together.

    Cheers

Hi Stot, The flaws do exist, The top one is IR & 140 MW the bottom one is green & 50 MW,
These are " Pumped " Lasers & not laser pens, When they are turned on, They jump in efficiency when turned on,,
An Infra red laser can ONLY Be Infra red, It can,t be red or green Its the wavelength & cannot be altered,

PS , What are you drinking, Ged.

I found out that the green lazer pens work using 2 crystals in the diode, one outputs a wavelength of ~1064nm (IR Field) and the other halves it down to ~532nm, (Green Field). Remove the green crystal you end up with infra red light only.

Pics of my NV modded camera showing the IR light, and the camera taking the pic of the camera not showing the light below. You can see the rectangle at 45 degrees on the corner of the monitor.

I cant put it back to being green mind you, but at £4.... Gotta try these things dont you?

    Cheers

Couple of pics of the green diode with the green crystal removed.

By the way, anyone that tries this takes responsibility for themselves.

iv been using a romisen rc-b12 just £26 from ebay (just search lamping torch on ebay, i could not get a link to work) they are very powerful and also come with a rear cable and finger switch and good to 75 yards. i use mine with a velcro strap £4 of ebay and is a great rig. the velcro strap also straps to shotgun barrels. the batteries seem to just keep going too.

Ha ha, Your right mate, !
Here is a Pic of the Green 50 MW laser torch , I,m in the lounge 6 mtrs long, Its daylight & in sunlight, On a night its VERY bright !
    Pic-

You can see that the projected beam is not homogenous , But out in the dark this cannot be seen,

Here is a Pic of the Infra Red projected beam, Its 140 MW This is of course seen through night vision,
It projects a television type screen, IE Rectangular , This can be enlarged for close work ( Although under 20 metres , Its way too bright ? )
This pic was taken with the Lens cap on, Which has a tiny pinhole for daytime use !!!
Of course without the night vision unit, it can,t be seen, This can be
Dangerous ! ( The lens focusses from burning to flood ) I allways leave it in flood,
I might add,That 140 mw, might be too much !
    Pic-

PS, The torch is VERY good, Don,t compare to any LED, Ged.
