hi,
I'm new to air rifle shooting, I want to shoot pigeons in my garden (there's lots of em')
Do I need to be over a certain age and be supervised by an adult over 21(Im 13) or can I not hunt at all. Basically:can under 14's hunt in there own back garden,miles away from the road, and do I need any sort of license/insurance

Birds are protected by law, and there are lots of threads on here about this (even in the last week).

You cant shoot pigeons in your garden without certain criteria being met, see this thread for details: Legalities of this...

typical noob question here, but regarding the above, is it now illegal to sell my air rifle to anyone but an RFD?

No, You can sell it to anyone over the age of 18 providing it is sub 12fpe

at the moment ive only got my backyard to shoot in ive got a decent backstop and i also put my paper target inside a box to stop rebonds. my sx78 is dead quiet with silencer fitted but my 2240 pistol and 2250b "RATTY" are quite loud if some one phoned the police round what are my rights will they take away my guns just for the sake of it. ive had a few different answers on this like depends on the police officer if he dont like airguns or is moody . everytime i shoot my 22xx i always feel paranoid now please help thanx

If you are shooting responsibly and no pellets are leaving your boundry there is nothing to worry about.
They will look at your gun, backstops etc and if everything is in order they will bid you good day and be on there way.

Well the recent goings on in Scotland would probably have brought about a total airgun ban, had Labour still been in power. Let us hope that the coalition government are a bit more pragmatic than Blair and Brown.

Since the hand gun ban following Dunblane, there are currently allegedly five times more of them than prior to the ban. 100% of them are now held illegally, as against circa 5% when they were licensed.
