    napier cleaning kit question

has anyone noticed a problem when using the pull through? it's supposed to be suitable for use on all calibres, but when threading the pull through down the barrel of my 177 97K, it felt a little tight. also it says in the instructions to use two cleaning patches for a 177 rifle, but when I tried to pull two patches in to the breech it felt as if I was going to snap the loop, which I have heard can be a problem when using the kit. so instead I just used one at a time which was perfectly fine for cleaning my rifle.
it also said in the instructions that the spray used in the barrel before using the pull through should be sprayed down the barrel once it is clean, can anyone explain what this actually does? I did notice that when I fired the rifle after, most of the spray came out anyway, are you supposed to leave this spray in the barrel for a while before shooting with it again?
also, what is the best way to use the field patches? are you supposed to wipe your rifle over with them and then leave the rifle in it's case, or is it better to wipe the rifle over with a dry cloth after using the field patches? the instructions also say to clean the barrel every 250 shots which sounds a little too often to me, is this correct?

Well in that case, use just one.

Regarding the spray, it's most likely a solvent cleaner. I would spray the patch and draw it through and repeat with another patch until they start to come out clean.

Regarding field patches.Wipe the gun down with them and then put it away. The patch leaves a rust proof coating on the metal.

Regarding use every 250 shots- Great for sales of Napier cleaning patches. I would just do it after a 1000 pellets.

thanks mate, how often should I be using the field patches? I'm guessing that such a thing wouldn't come cheap.
    also, can they be reused?

I use them (or try to) after every outing. Defo use them after the gun gets wet and also wipe down the underlever/barrel where your hand goes as the sweat in your hand wil cause rust. A good wipe in these areas keeps things as they should be. You can re-use them by keeping them in a sealed bag. As long as they are damp and imparting an oily finish on the gun they are fine. In fact on my patches I also spray them with Napier VP90 rust proofer as a 'top up'

Not unless your stock is blued metal which I doubt.

it says on the instructions that you should only use the cleaning patches to clean the inside of the barrel, it says never use the field patches for cleaning the inside of the barrel or attach them to the cable loop, but on the back of the packet the field patch comes in, it says to wipe over all metal parts of gun, use with pull through or jag to protect barrels.
why does it tell you to do two different things, are they trying to confuse people?

Paul I use two but I twist at end so it guides patches through had no probs. I recommend the kit for anyone owning an airgun.

No, just trying to confuse you Paul

Bit of a contradiction by Napier but I wouldn't worry too much. Field patches on the outside, cleaning patches on the inside but it's not the end of the world if the field patch goes down the barrel.

exactly, the spray to clean the barrel has vp90 in it anyway. I think after I have got all the use I can out of the field patches, I will just use the spray on a dry cloth, the field patch seems to leave a lot more oil on the metal work than I was expecting. it takes a while to dry too and I don't want oil all over the inside of my bag.
using the field patch also left a bit of oil on the stock too, which ment I had to handle the rifle for a bit longer to wipe the stock clean.
