Theoben Evolution low on power or faulty Combro?!

Hi all , bought a second hand Theoben Evolution from a shop in Norfolk a few weeks ago. I asked the guy if he would mind checking the power before I purchased , which he was happy to do. He told me it was pushing out 11.3 ftlb's (I didn't witness this) so I was happy and went ahead and bought it. I've just replaced the batteries in my 10 yr old Combro (hardly been used in that time and in 'perfect' condition) and spent the afternoon (indoors) trying various pellets through it......
    Average ftlb's ......
    Accupell's 9.1 ftlb
    AA Fields 9.2 ftlb
    Bisley Magnums 8.9 ftlb
Crossman Premier 7.50 ftlb! (a very tight fit in the breach)
The barrel was cleaned with VFG pellets in between and the readings with each make of pellet was consistent, consistently low!
Not sure if the Combro could be out of calibration or the guy just plucked a figure from the sky to gain a sale?!

The rifle was bought for hunting purposes and I'm not happy doing that with anything thats that far off 11 ftlb !!
I get the feeling the Combro is ok but I guess I need to 'find' another and check this!

    Any other advice greatfully recieved!

As long as the combro is reading consistent power levels on each pellet I would say the gun is the problem.

If the combor was faulty, I would expect to see erratic readings.

theoben gas rams are known to lose power over time. Sounds like the ram needs some more air, given that you purchased the gun recently I would ask that the gun shop does it for you free of charge. Once its done keep a eye on it to check its not an ongoing leak, if it occurs a second time within a short period of time Id be asking for a refund or asking the gunshop to fund a theoben service (about £90).

Might be a good idea to see if someone near to you as a different type of chrono, Ive read on this forumfor one that Rammers are not a good match for the Combro due to it's distinctive recoil action, I don't know this from experience as I use a F1 Chrony, there is no physical contact with these as is with the combro.

Yeah , good point Martin. Though the Evo doesnt have much of a 'kick' I do need to check it with another crono I guess!

Simple - take it to the shop and ask to watch it chrono shot - and note the recordings for yourself. I wouldn't be too worried about it being low though, not that low, but don't take it too high. I find the Theoben gasrams run sweeter around the 11ft-lbs than any higher.

My Taunus holds its power for year after year at spot on 10.9ft-lbs with FTT and 10.8 with Bisley Superfields. I am lucky in that it shoots both of these to exactly the same point of aim, bob on at 30 yards. The difference is immeasurable and if I shoot the pellets mixed up I still get one good group. Well, acceptable group anyway! i use that rifle as a pot filler. I got a squirrel the other day right on last knockings, silhouetted against the moon (that glorious full moon on saturday, anyone else see it?) Anyway, i head shot it and then paced the distance to where it just fell out the tree - 48 paces. You don't need more power. I agree, it wants a bit more than your 9 and a bit....but you don't want to go over about 11.2 or I bet it will affect the grouping. I don't like premseither - too hard and too tight.

Rang them up Sunday and taking it in next Saturday so will hopefully get it pushing out nearer the 11ftlb I was told it was running at! They can sort the safety out too , not engaging

The gun shop would not have been one in the centre of Yarmouth down a dingy little alley way off the market place would it?
