    Finally - rifle sling update

    Hi all
Following Jetski's great you tube link in my last thread .... descision was made... talon sling clips ordered
and black Paracord (100ft for about £5) ordered too.

Finally got round to giving it a go ...... not knowing how much cord was required to complete it was easier this being first time to fold the 100ft into 4
    and go from there.
Set up the talon clips at 900mm between the clips ...(my required length)...... nailed them to a piece of mdf 50mm skirting.... to
lean against the wall whilst weaving.
    100_0090.jpg
Taped the top one still to stop it moving whilst working with it ..... the bottom one has the loops on so doesnt flinch under tension.

Stood next to the PC, I followed the link on you tube ....... soon I was standing all over the very long lengths and dancing about to free them
up and pull them through as required........but I plodded on and got to this point

    100_0092.jpg

Its very easy to think "piece of p*ss" and get carried away and make a simple mistake !! fourth loop down / right hand side !
So undo and start again....... and then again about 100mm further down.... when I made another.
The weave pattern does become quite easy to spot these mistakes ...... if you aint bothered ? But me Mr OCD ! undo
and rewind to the mistake and carry on.

Approximately 3 hours later ......... I was flame singeing the ends ...... and finished.
The final edge loops are the start to the two centre pulled through cords .... so I slackened them back abit ... thread through
the left to left right to right and pulled tight. Cut them short enough to melt ..... twitchy bum time !!.....They are then tight next to each other and make a nice neat finish when singed.

    100_0098.jpg

And the finished result on the rifle

    100_0093.jpg 100_0096.jpg

Assuming the length was 100ft when bought .... I have four lengths of 5 > 6ft over...... so just over 80ft used for a 900mm length.
Guess I will try some of the wristbands next with those.
But for £5 ish ... it aint worth trying to buy an exact or near length to do this.

    Fancy a go then ????
Things to consider if you are OCD like me !!
    • If you set up a jig (piece of timber) the timber is the rifle as you look at it from underneath.... where the sling will be.(though I considered mine to be butt end at the top)
    • If you want to have the nice start loops showing ..... position the sling clips the way you want them to be ... on the rifle...ie which side you want
right to left on the stock (clip spring button or screwfit to left or right).... if you get what I mean ?
    • I made my knots quite tight. This results in a fairly rigid sling .... in comparison to slacker knots and a more supple sling.
    • The sling will have some stretch to all those knots when finished. You can pull and stretch a tad to even it all out if it looks a bit crumpled.
    • The finished singed end for me .... I decided that would be the butt end..... just me and my OCD again !

You can do it .... give it a go......better than any sling you will buy IMO.

    Thanks for reading
    Degs
    and thanks again Jetski.
